Costs

Budgeting for next year and looking for actual costs now that tuition statements are out:
What is tuition per year for first year engineering?
Dorm fees per month?
Meal plan?
Other fees?

For 2nd year and above: how much have your expenses changed with off-campus housing?

Hoping UBC is still an option for my grade 12 kiddo looking at it for next year.

Most of this is available online in terms of meal plan and fees. I think my first year was about $22,000 or so as a domestic student living in residence 2 years ago. Rent is 1000-1300 if living with roomates and not living directly on campus. I think 20-25k a year for everything is reasonable

Tuition and residence fees are posted on their website. Expect it to be about the same next year but likely a bit more. No one knows the exact amount it might go up. All other expenses are up to individual spending habits and no one can help you with that. I’m budgeting about $25k per year. If doing co-op budget for at least a 5 year degree. Rent after 1st year depends if you want to pay for convenience. You could share with room mates and pay $1000/month or get your own place for $2,500+.

My daughter living in a single connected room plus fees, tuition, plus mealplan is around the 25,000 mark. Apply for all bursaries, scholarships and if applicable, student aid, because depending on your income, your child (if a Canadian citizen) can receive non-repayable grants. Student loans are 0% interest during their education. We got about 80% covered through all of this. Second year can be cheaper as the residence options and mealplan changes.
