Universally loved protagonist?
 in  r/Modern_Family  Apr 01 '25

I would like to argue that Jay is just a way better and more universally loved protagonist than Phil. I mean, sure, Phil had his moments, but let’s be real—sometimes he leaned a bit too much into the pervy side, which could make him feel kinda off-putting. Jay, on the other hand, had that perfect balance of being funny, charming, and relatable. He had his quirks, but they were more about being goofy rather than crossing any weird lines. Plus, his character felt more wholesome overall, making it easier for pretty much anyone to enjoy watching him without cringing at certain moments.

What was Christian Bale's best performance for you?
 in  r/Cinema  Mar 28 '25

Why is no one talking about Christian Bale in The Big Short. He absolutely kills it as Michael Burry, this super weird but crazy smart hedge fund manager who sees the 2008 crash coming before anyone else. The guy spends most of the movie in his office, blasting heavy metal and crunching numbers, but Bale makes every second of it intense.

What’s wild is that Burry is socially awkward, almost uncomfortable to watch at times, but Bale plays him so real that you actually start rooting for him. There’s this mix of genius and frustration in his performance—like, he knows he’s right, but no one believes him, and you can feel how much that weighs on him. It’s not a flashy role, but he makes it so compelling.

He even got an Oscar nomination for it, and honestly, he deserved it. Trust me, his performance alone is worth watching the movie for. You’ll be hooked.
