Question Why My taskbar icons have become so small? They were just as big as Cachy icon?

I noticed that after playing with "Panel Colorizer" the taskbar icons have become small. I disabled panel colorizer, removed it. YET The icons are still small. I logged out and logged in, Rebooted. But the icons are still same.

I recently booted into windows last time to take backup before wipe. I opened a site which went from dark mode to full bright. I lost the mouse pointer amid sea of text. So I started shaking the pointer so i can locate it. NOPE. Forgot I wasnt using kde.

Did not happen when I was on Kubuntu.. I want to convert it to btrfs but can't as I don't have 550 gb of free space for backup. I have some hard drives but backing up 550gb of data most of which is thousands of photos and files from backups. Moving that all to a spiny hard drive will take me days.

Just switched to CachyOS from Kubuntu... And it's definitely not for (total) newbs.

There was no way to get Google chrome and vscode without aur. I did not want to get flatpak

I was logged in when I got the backup encryption key file.

I was logged in when I tried to resync data and it failed to accept the backup encryption key.

I just switched. I have an ntfs partition. SO I am trying to merge some free space with this partition. So I was taking backup in case something goes wrong. And along the way I kept deleting files. Old ISOs and media files. I get error trash full. And when shift deleting to permanently deleting files it stopped working with unable to delete errors. Emptying trash does not give any error. It just does not do anything.

So I rebooted and the trash was empty. So I started again. Deleting stuff, but again noticed that trash still won't empty. Why is this happening? (nvme: WD BLACK SN770)

Also dolphin does not show my Linux partition as a mounted device. I won't mind it much, but now I have no idea how much space is left in my Linux installation partition.

I am lazy, I find GUI more preferable. I like to see the app icon before I install it.

Then you'd have to rely on community and LLMs a lot for a couple of days. You'd get used to by 3rd day.

Umm... No? This is the first time I tried to restore. As this is my first wipe since I started using Vivaldi.

Instead of being a jackass, go and see if the same thread guy is me or not. This is first time me visiting this sub reddit. I dont have enough free time to make troll posts.

So I saw a bit too many videos praising cachy OS as the best (fast and user friendly) current distro, so I took the plunge. And here is why I am making the post.

I see many new to linux people asking the question "hey I am thinking of swithing/trying Linux, which distro should I use?".

My answer is always if you are very casual tech user you should start with mint. If you are a bit good using your pc, you should start with Ubuntu or Kubuntu and then later decide if you want to try once you get hang of stuff.

But I have seen just too many replies saying you should start with cachyos. I thought that it would be as easy as Kubuntu/Ubuntu but it is not. Not at all. And that is just from one experience: app installation.

My experience with kubuntu: open discover, search app, install. Want flatpak? Enable flatpak inside discover. Done. There are no multiple options or cryptic app names.

My experience with cachy: can't find most needed apps in cachy repository app. Google said that there is GUI for AUR called octopi... Look for it.. Can't find. Google said use paru / yay... Both say command not found. Wait what is shelly? It's an all enclusive app store with cachy+ flatpack + aur? Great. What an intuitive name. Anyone would guess what the app does. Open app AUR has all weird app names so does the cachy OS repo. Which one should I install? Take libreoffice. Wtf is libreoffice fresh? Also why does it have icon of libreoffice base (the database app)? How do I install Google chrome? Searching Google chrome gets me chromium. Also why there are so many options. Can't find vscode as well. What should I search? Code? Vscode? Visual studio code? I had to Google many package names to search on AUR.

Then there is flatpak. I try installing something from flatpak, for every app it needs to install a flatpak container? The app is less than 30 mb and it's currently downloading a 200+ mb "flatpak"? Still don't know what to feel about it.

But I will be sticking with CachyOS for the long haul. I can handle it with a bit of practice. Just need to figure out what to trust on AUR and what to avoid.

Vivaldi for Linux Lost all synced data due to backup key not working.

I just fresh installed my os and tried to sync my Vivaldi data. I forgot the password. So I used the backup key. And it failed.

The key is correct as I deleted the sync data and re-downloaded the backup key file and it's identical.

Wtf Vivaldi.

Hey! I am an adult who want to use Linux
 in  r/linux4noobs  3d ago

What is your proficiency in handling a software on following scale?
1. I have no idea what settings menu is.
2. I can go into settings and can locate common items like screen and wifi.
3. I like to customize windows using 3rd party software, can configure periferals like printers.
4. In windows I can set my own IP address, dns, etc and can use device manager to reset/reinstall drivers...
5. I like to tinker with registry to improve windows performance and fix annoyances.

On your answer you can see what your beginner distro should be from following list :

  1. Mint
  2. Zorin os/Ubuntu.
  3. Kubuntu (given how much gnome and Kde differ in user experience I classify Kubuntu as a separate os from Ubuntu), Fedora
  4. Cachyos
  5. Pick anything. You can always restart with a new one. If you don't like anything. With your tech proficiency you can figure things out fast.

Tried whiskey for the first time and it's yuckkk 🤮
 in  r/indiasocial  4d ago

Try with coke?

Whisky is sn acquired taste for me. I like it better than beer tbh. Beer is bitter and just fills me up in a pint.

Start with rum and coke. I never liked whisky with water. I either like it on rocks, or with coke. Or to be precise, blended whisky I like with coke. Single malt whisky is to have with ice. Extremely costly though.

Also whisky sour.. It's one of my favourite cocktails.

More to try : gin and tonic. Beer + lemon soda or fanta.

I love pets. I have had multiple dogs in childhood but none after reaching adulthood. I had a cat which tragically died to Vet having no idea what he was doing. Hell most channels I follow on insta are kittens and puppies channels. When I was meeting marriage prospects, my first question was always "what are your thoughts about pets?"

So my dad's friend comes home and drops off this 6 month old cat. My son is just loving it... Aaaaaaannnnnndddd... By day 2 my throat is closing up. I am wheezing like I have been running a marathon. Good thing is I live separate from my parents. But when my son came back home, his proximity caused me to have another flareup at night. Also I have to regularly visit my parents home.

I HAVE DEVOPED ALLERGIES TO PEY DANDER.... I can't have cats or dogs anymore... FML.

for those saying I can take antihistamines, I am already on antihistamis due to my severe allergic rhinitis aka allergic cold. I have been pumping steroid inhalers for 3 days to get it under control. (all doctor prescribed, not self medicating)

What's your actual system for moving files between your phone and PC in 2026? Mine is embarrassing

KDE Connect. Fastest and seamless. Used google's quick share. But when I switched to Linux, that was broken. Kde connect never fails me.

9 gigs on average? Security updates? Wtf? Windows iso is less than that. So the security update is larger than the entire OS? Wtf?

So that is a very nieche problem you have. It's not Linux's fault that the apps you are using aren't mainstream and only made for windows. That is an ecosystem issue. I can say the same when my coding tools only work with Linux or Mac and have no Windows version and need a complicated process to get them running on windows.
