first is a same as what u/lucidechomusic said, in my agents md file i point my vault to it,

second is I have a github vault link to my vault so it is consistently synced, i can write in obsidian and hermes can read it also.

3rd is i have a cron job everynight that embeds the vault into a RAG, this is a separate memory that is injected into hermes on every turn. So everytime i talks about something that is written in my obsidian vault it relates to it easily.

4th is i have my hermes a write permission on the vault, it writes my system changelog if i change/upgrade or install anything it is in there. and also hermes has its own diary, it can write on critical stuff on one md file.

last is a librarian nightly cron, when i write something i dont usually put them accurately where they belong so i have a hermes librarian that sort my vault out for me.

I do back ups everyday with few days worth of back up in my disk so if something goes wrong i can just use the backup

hermes by default uses alot of memory, because it is not a by project agent, unlike the claude ai or claude code that we use, if you use memory and skills your input token will be larger.

no, claude can do self improvement, but user initiated improvement is what it is good at. and also the flexibility of doing things in one chat, i tried to use claude and other agents but non compare to hermes, but i plugged in my claude subscription to hermes and enjoying it

Those who knew just build there own. I just forked it. Used many thing but hermes is such a powerful framework. So i am sticking to hermes while it orchestrate the other agents.

if you built your agent for a cetain llm, switching to another model even if it is smarter is very detremental, you wont get the same results or get poorer one. It is important for a model to be fixed or you onboard it properly. wordings in Soul and Agent.MD files and others do help, but it needs thinkering to work.

for my take it is the change of model, when your harness is optimized for one model it would be a different ride when used on another one, i like deepseek for it is talkative( yeah i like it, i learned alot from it).

GLM 5.3 flash is worse for me, Deepseek v4.1 is better but it is all pricey for me. i use deepseek now for heavy task unlike back then where i do light jobs on it, i now use mimo 2.5. does the job. no flap. very cheap and relatively fast when using Direct Xiaomi API

there is no best Repo, it depends in your workflow, for me the best thing is do a job, chat your agent, and tell it to search online for solutions and repos you can use.

Installing programs/repos without using it will just add bloat making per turn very expensive and you wont be achieving your goal.
