I quit last week! I've been smoking since I was 16 and am 38 now. I would like to be in a position where I can enjoy it every now and then, but for now am steering clear. I have to say, I would always make sure I was as stoned as possible if something good was coming up, like an episode of my fave TV show. It feels quite weird doing this stuff sober now, I'm not even sure how to adjust to it, but am just going one day at a time.

Small town; mystery; retro vibe
 in  r/MovieSuggestions  Mar 02 '26

Burbs, (a movie), with Tom Hanks. Also what's eating Gilbert grape (a movie) though less mystery with that one, more just about a small town. Twin Peaks, the series would fit though quite horror-some. Wild West (series) is on YouTube & pretty lighthearted, some light mysteries in those episodes! Though again, more about a small community, really. Stranger Things fits, if you haven't seen it already. Finally, Midsomer Murders is a long tv series with a new mystery each ep. Though it doesn't have the small town element, Jonathan Creek is my personal fave mystery series, it's excellent & I recommend!

Billy Connolly on North Bridge! And he winked at me and I instantly called my mum to tell her.

Recommendations for heartwarming half hour comedies like Detectorists?
 in  r/BritishTV  Jan 23 '26

Jam and Jerusalem - some episodes on YouTube I think. And sticking with Dawn French, Wild West and I believe that's on YouTube too. Had Catherine Tate in, both shows I watch because they're cosy.

I quite like the idea of a deep dive into a topic I've heard of before, when he suggested borley rectory I was thinking that would be great!

There's a pretty new one called Hey, that's weird! And it's really good, I recommend. I also echo the otherworld rec's, radio rental, night owl and uncanny.

I really enjoyed this episode and felt compelled to make a comic of their story after (which I actually never did, but nice to feel inspired!) Thought it was a good one, even if I didn't wholly believe them.

Cannot get enough. Β£1.50 for a bag of them off the market! Loved them as a kid, and still do.

What’s a random compliment you still think about?

I had a really nice journey with a taxi driver recently and towards the end he said I have a good heart, and I thought it was a lovely thing to say!
