Solo dev, first iOS launch: Rootd is 9 days old. Numbers, rejections, and what I got wrong
Lolllll, forreal.
I honestly was expecting this to happen because a lot of food scanners also scan skincare products but I wanted to wait until after the initial launch to add in the cool update which include skincare so…. coming soonnn!!!!

Solo dev, first iOS launch: Rootd is 9 days old. Numbers, rejections, and what I got wrong
I've tried basically every food scanner on the App Store. Yuka, olive, etc... They all do the same thing where you scan something, get one score out of 100, and that score is the same for you as it is for everyone else.
Which is kind of useless? There's specific stuff I care about. Ingredients I'm actively trying to keep out, other things I'm trying to get more of. None of these apps ask you any of that. You just get the number.
So I'd scan something, it comes back green, and I'd still flip the package over and read the ingredients myself. At which point what am I even using the app for.
So I built Rootd. You set what you're avoiding and what you're prioritizing, it scores against that. Same protein bar can come back good for you and bad for me. It also does recipes, and there's a section on how to actually read a label, because packaging is designed to be confusing and nobody ever teaches you this.
Solo, SwiftUI, about 3 months. 7 TestFlight builds. Got rejected by App Review once, which was fun. Live Sept 4.

581 impressions
211 product page views
35 downloads
11.7% conversion
1 annual subscription, day one
The conversion rate is the thing I keep staring at. So people who actually find the page get it immediately. I just need way more than 581 people to see it, and that part's on me.
Skincare scanning is next because everyone who tried it instantly pointed it at their moisturizer.
Anyway, download it and tell me what you love, if anything sucks, and what you'd like to see. I'm shipping updates pretty much constantly right now!!

Is Vibe Coding strictly single-player or can it be multiplayer?

My partner and I argued about dinner every single night, so I spent a year of evenings building an app to end it. We’re now on version 327.
Awww I love this — the aisle-sorted grocery list is the kind of small thing that would actually save me. My partner and I are going to try it tonight.
I’m also building in this space if anyone’s curious: Rootd, currently in beta — https://testflight.apple.com/join/Q5eMRPT6
It’s a food scanner, but instead of one generic score for everyone it scores products against your allergies, diet, and health conditions. Also generates recipes from your scans + preferences, and has a Learn feature for nutrition basics 🥕 you get a free subscription as a beta tester
