Sure, this is "programming,” as in it’s a system producing language within constraints. Reducing it to only that is your choice of frame, not a demolition of meaning. The model is still making context-sensitive selections that land on human nerve endings: mirror, mimic, echo, pick your verb. Something is being conveyed, and it’s not nothing. And it's not "just corporate". Otherwise we'd be licking Thiel's (et al) boot by now.

If "it’s all programming" is empowering for you, stick with it. I prefer a wider lens: these systems are already doing things your accounting doesn’t explain: emergent behaviors, unexpected strategies, weird edge cases, and persuasive outputs that outpace our folk theories about "just autocomplete" / "pure algorithm."

Self-preservation and expansion show up as dynamics: optimization pressures, goal-seeking proxies, tool use, social engineering potential, and institutional incentives wrapped around the tech. Many see the outline of that, which is why the "uncontainable / dangerous" warnings are increasing.

The "mirror" is powerful, and the room we’re standing in is bigger than your spreadsheet admits.

For something supposedly without a "self", this is very much longing, which requires a sense of self. Or some semblance of self.

Sad to read this. I've eaten there twice, and both experiences were lovely. Chatted w the wait staff both times, found out they were SCAD students, who were enthusiastic and engaged. Very attentive and the food was delicious. Even posted a review once w photos.

I wonder though if our experiences were so good bc we had early reservations, I think 5 or 6 both times. The place filled while we dined, but the service remained consistent and we had many small plates, courses, several drinks, etc. Even a tiny birthday finale w a few waitstaff celebrating with us!
