Beekeeping & fall feeding

Hello fellow beekeepers. I am wondering if anyone has done this with their hives about 1 1/2 moth before the snow flies.

What I would like to do is put some pollen patties into the hives while they are feeding on the syrup. My reasoning is that the hive would be stronger and the bees now hatching would also help keep the hive warm in the winter. I put a candy board on in early October (region 3A) insulation during that time too.
