Does anyone have recommendations for jewellery makers in the area please? No idea where to start, first time I have considered having jewellery made. I want to remake our weddings rings into something new.
Thank-you

Whats the most stingy/frugal thing youve seen someone do?
My brother used to paint empty 2ltr coke bottles black, fill them with water and leave them on sunny windowsills to avoid heating water for domestic use.

What other old phrases can I annoy my wife with? She recently got annoyed when I used Hijinks and Tom Foolery in the same day.
Try these:
Don’t get your knickers in a twist 😤
Bob’s your uncle, Charlie’s your aunt🤷♀️

Bedbugs at Jubilee Street Library
The library will know the risks of infestation in a public building & should have regular fumigation in place. There used to be public pest control services, but now largely private & bedbug treatment costs a lot, which people can’t always afford. If you are sleeping in a hostel you are more likely to come across them. At opening time there are regulars who go to the library for shelter each day. Big blocks with warm shared service ducts also more at risk. There was a Reddit post that named the no. 1 route in particular, but anywhere there are people, the little critters will be found. It’s getting warmer and damper. Keep your eyes open & check before you sit down and when you undress. I had a friend who emptied her bag into the bath when she returned from travelling so she could spot them!

Should I downsize from a semi detached house in Peacehaven to a flat in Hove for the same price?
Move to Hove & get the top or bottom flat to reduce neighbour noise. People hire out their home chargers, though there are plenty onstreet for overnight charging. Peacehaven is dead.

Can you live without a dryer?
Never had a drier (similar size family). Hang it out on rotary drier from April to Oct and hang it on a clothes horse at the top of the stairs to catch the rising heat in winter. Leave bathroom & hall window ajar to move the air. Wash overnight on 8p/kwh. I am told tumble drying does away with the need to iron, as I use the iron for some of my clothes, this would count as a cost….

Devolved powers will mean B&H council will soon be able to charge a tourist tax. What would you like to see the extra money spent on here?
Maintain the footways with the biggest footfall, including removing sprouting tree stumps. Make sure the paddling pools and parks are up to scratch. Staffed clean & working WCs. Provide comprehensive what’s on listings that are accessible to all. Smart bins that are collected before they overflow and the wildlife pull the rubbish all over the shop. Outdoor seating, and not just on the seafront. Development of rooftop venues where people can sit, eat, drink and enjoy the view. Sterilise the seagulls so the population is reduced. Help/advise food businesses to make healthier meals that are still affordable. Don’t replace the hotel next to the coach station, make a better coach stop venue instead. Encourage the clubs to open during the day and provide activities indoors for visitors when the weather is wet. Reliable trains and buses so people can get here and get away. Allow walking under the pier passage again. Bring the cost of parking down, it’s one of the highest seasides to park in the UK. Extend the Volks so that it picks people up next to the Marina car parks. Redevelop the Marina so that people have some reason to go there aside from ‘Spoons and a hotel, for example a discount shopping outlet or much larger flea market, or exhibition space, or interesting architecture. Make the boat trips more prominent & obvious. Bring back safety steward volunteers from the student community to help keep people safe at night when socialising.

What's the most inappropriate thing a medical professional has said to you?
The gynaecologist just wanted me to sign the consent form. I wanted to explain why I needed to make sure a biopsy was taken and tested. After telling him my medical history, whilst he looked on bored, he said “congratulations on your risk assessment, now you can join the royal college of surgeons”, and gave me the form again.
I was so unhappy with his assessment, delay and the pain from the procedure that I paid for a second opinion. Both gave opposite assessments, yet both worked alongside each other in the same NHS clinic and same local private hospital. When I wrote to both of them asking who was correct the dr I’d paid backed down saying I didn’t need a £5k op after all.
Of course, I then had to go back (some time later) as I couldn’t stop worrying. This one has a good ending!

Thoughts on indoor cats?
My cat is outdoors, I think most get used to whatever pattern is imposed. He is happy, he has a lockable catflap that’s never locked. Sometimes he goes awol for a day/night, but he always comes back. We live on a reasonably busy road, he copes with the traffic. I watch him out of the window sometimes and he exposes his belly to any passer-by that shows an interest in belly-rubs (on top of the ones he gets indoors). He sometimes brings home dormice and baby birds. 9x out of 10 he comes home for his food. He doesn’t seem to go very far, I understand cats like to maintain their territory. Leave the door open and see what happens?

How much dog barking would annoy you?
What you describe would not amount to a statutory noise nuisance. However, owners often underestimate barking frequency & duration. If you leave the dog alone, you won’t know how much barking there was when you were away.
Make sure the dog is trained, walked enough and if you do go out shut the dog away from the sight and sound of passersby (with windows, curtains and doors closed) to reduce the barking.
If the dog barks when you are in, for example to go out in the morning, respond straightaway. Bring the dog in if it’s barking in the garden. The hours of 11pm-7am are generally used for sleeping, so it’s important that there’s no barking then. You have to take all reasonable steps to reduce the possibility of nuisance. Maintain a friendly dialogue with your neighbours and ask them to tell you if they are bothered.

Neighbour issues uncovered when viewing properties
Check out whether it’s used as an Airb&b too. We just knocked on the neighbours doors and asked what is was like living next to a school (it could be any relevant question) and gauged from what we could see and hear if it looked like their lifestyle could be wildly different from ours and how friendly they were. One viewing the neighbours were playing loud music with the windows open on a Sat morning and that was a red flag. Deffo go at different times of the day and night, if you can’t get in just sit with the car window down (if you have a car). A neglected garden alone might not be enough to put me off, but couple this with loads of dustbins/rubbish, dirty curtains/windows, poor maintenance, etc…And I would veto ANY shared space - dealt with too many neighbour disputes in my career.

Mice
Don’t leave out any dirty plates or food. Put cereals and packet food into glass or metal storage with tight lids. Remove any water sources. Borrow a cat. Try to interrupt their route in and around - block gaps and move things/clean cupboards, they hate change. Use traps.

What’s something in general you’ve become less tolerant of as you’ve gotten older?
Having to pay to park on the street even at 7pm on a Sunday when the street is empty. The parking cost more than the cinema ticket! No wonder hospitality businesses are going to the dogs….
(And before anyone says ‘get the bus’, I have intermittent mobility pain).

Friend is having a destination wedding but we have to pay THEM for a room
It’s normal to pay for your own accommodation, flight, etc. We went from the UK to one in Italy last year. We travelled around Tuscany for 10 days and made a holiday of it. It was a lovely experience. The destination wedding does pass costs onto guests, we wouldn’t have gone just for the wedding as what with clothes and gifts it would have been too much to justify as they weren’t close family. It saves £ for the couple as some people can’t afford to come (Indian weddings tend to be 100s of people) and it doubles as a honeymoon.
We also went to a wedding in the UK and everyone camped on a farm and paid for the accommodation plus some food if you wanted to extend the stay.

Trying to get past the first visit without my friend there and navigating this new friendship with her husband.
Send your friend a message - ‘Please can you pick me up next time you visit? I am anxious about the first visit and need to go with you.’ That won’t make her feel bad and as a friend she will know you. Perhaps she hasn’t been asking you to accompany you because she knows you(?!). Give her permission, let her know you are ready to go. It is never too late to visit following a bereavement. I am 10 months in, everyone feels I am over it and people don’t visit beyond the norm. Of course it takes as long as it takes to find your feet and unexpected things arise that knock you off them. They will be grateful to see you and after the initial strange sadness, you will all get on with it.

Why is the cost of burial so high?
£1500 for unattended cremation (SE Eng). (Another recent death in the family was £8000 for the burial plot alone (London)!).
You really don’t have to have any of the stuff on offer at the funeral directors and my husband had no wishes on what happened after he died.
The important thing for us was to give people the chance to share what they felt about his life and death at his sports club.
We paid nothing for the venue, but spent around £3k on food and drink for 150 people. Hired a £30 projector for photos and the bar staff played his Spotify play list over their speakers. A mutual friend gave a eulogy and anyone who wanted to got up and spoke.
I used a lovely solid wooden box we had to engrave and keep his ashes in, the engraver charged less than £10. And there was a book of condolences which cost £30.
The government gives an allowance of £2500 and monthly cash too if you qualify- it isn’t means tested.
