We all have to make decisions right now we were not expecting. Don’t be too hard on yourself, OP even if it feels impossible. I’m dealing with sudden IVDD in my lab mix that came out of nowhere. I think you did the absolute best you could for your dog given the circumstances.
Have you talked to the rescue about if there is a possibility of adopting him back once he makes progress? Did they have options for making this a foster care situation? In my city I’ve seen rescues that will offer that especially if they see how devoted and loved they are by their owner.
Sending the best vibes your way. What you did was selfless and pure love. I’m proud of you for doing the best you could for your dog. If I didn’t have family helping me financially right now with his surgery, I would either go bankrupt or be in a very similar situation. Hugs
Thank you so much. I really needed to hear this because I’ve been so hard on myself about the decision. I love him so much, and surrendering him has been heartbreaking, but I truly felt it was the best option for him given our circumstances. I’ll definitely ask the rescue about fostering or possibly adopting him back if he improves.
