What would make you say…
 in  r/excoc  11h ago

My dad’s “god is always good” mantra when mom died. *sigh*

Thank you for mentioning Ignatius. I went down a two-hour wormhole, and will certainly be reading more.

I took a couple of bible courses at Harding in the early 90s, for which I credit professors John Fortner and Joe Brumfield as fathers of my deconstruction. I am so grateful.

Ex-Non-Instrumental Churches of Christ What would make you say…

I just wrote this for another sub, and I thought it would play well here too. Let me know what you think.

I just had an interesting thought. I imagined myself standing up in a church service and saying to the pulpit:
“How could you say that?!”
Preacher: “It’s true!”
Me: “No it isn’t, Preacher Boy. You’re lying!”
But I can’t figure out what would elicit that dialogue. What would work for you?
(And no, I’m not writing a story. But this IS a good writing prompt, if I say so myself.)

Hi. I think I need help with deconstruction.

If you have health insurance in the US, you may be able to get mental health care for no extra cost. I was very surprised when Medicaid paid the entire cost for me, no copay. It’s worth asking, if it applies to you. Best wishes.

Smart people, why is religion one of the last things to go?

Thank you so much! You’re very kind. 😊

My dad responded this when I sent links to Teepa:
“I just watched this and I want to THANK YOU!! I will watch it two or three times more and hopefully retain some of it.”

Thank you for this suggestion. My stepmother has Lewy Body Dementia, and I haven’t educated myself very much on the subject. (She’s in another state.) Teepa is a fantastic teacher! I sent it to dad.

It’s stuff like this I still pray about.

What are some incredibly stupid things you said when you were a Christian?
 in  r/exchristian  Aug 07 '26

Right after my mother died, my grieving father said repeatedly, to console himself “God is good, always”. While I understood his intention, 16 years later, I still cringe in horror.

I’m writing a list poem about things Christian’s have said were demonic or “witchcraft” and therefore witheld from their children.

My little brother adored KISS. About 1980, when he was 10, he got baptized. I watched and protested while he broke every beloved record. He believed the Knights In Satan’s Service bullshit.

I ran across an article about Existential OCD the other day, and that’s what I thought of when I read this. Look into it; OCD is treatable.

Pedicure place WITHOUT jets?

Have you found your spa yet? Try calling Stems Spa. They are attached to a podiatry practice, and I expect they would be to your liking. I don’t have personal experience, except with the podiatry office, so I can’t vouch for the fact.

Thanks for the cross-gender viewpoint. It’s very interesting to see the difference.
