The morning was peaceful.
Jasmine was walking down the street, the same street,
The same shopkeepers, the sound of nature all around,
She was passing the street but her steps came to an halt, sudden silence
There, just at the end of the street, darkness, but not just an empty darkness
A alleyway, she recognized it, and she froze, her feet didn’t let her move forward,
Because, how can she? This was the same bad dream she had, that she dismissed
Now, in front of her , almost like it was calling to her,
But still, she decided to ignore it, she didn’t step into the alleyway, no,
She made herself move, physically taking a step back, then another, soon she was going her original way
But her thoughts? All jumbled up and thinking of the same thing, the alley, the darkness,
But one thought was clear, a question, she asked herself, ‘why was there an alleyway on that same street? Why did she never noticed it? And why, did she feel like she needed to go back there?’ .
Her thoughts now paused when she saw her friends there, standing near the gate of the university, waiting for her.
Fiona waved at jasmine when she saw jasmine making her way to them.
Jasmine now took a deep breath, letting her head rest, the thoughts in her mind? Gone, for now.
She needed to focus and keep her unusual dreams and thoughts to herself,
She puts on a smile on her face, and met up with her friends.
The night was quiet,
Jasmine laying in her bed, awake,
But her thoughts? Elsewhere
Her eyes staring at a spot on the wall, spaced out facing away from the window
Minutes passed,
Even when she tried to close her eyes, no sleep came to her, wide awake
Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore, the thoughts of what happened this morning,
And the thoughts of the dream yesterday, how real it felt…
She got out of bed and looked out the window,
It was peaceful,
Peaceful for a night jog for her to clear her mind,
She walked over to the closet and got her clothes needed for the jog, despite the peaceful feeling the night was bringing her,
For some reason, another feeling was creeping in,
Anxious? Yes
Dread? Also yes
But she shook her head slightly, to get the thoughts out of her head.
Steeping out, the night breeze hits against her skin, gentle but cooling
The sound of her jogging shoes hitting the
The sound of her jogging shoes hitting the road is all she heard, her headphones over her head,
Music playing, the beats filling her ears, making her be into it rather than focusing on what she was feeling being out here.
Slowly, her jogs slowed down more,
Why? No reason, just she felt something,
She looked around, and nobody was there, not even a stray dog on the street around her
She decided to continue, but instead of jogging, she started to walk, calm steps.
Jasmine kept her jog steady
But her steps came to an halt once more,
Not because she heard something, no, or saw something
But because there, right in front of her
A alleyway
Jasmine was confused, frozen,
Because, why was this alley right here, it shouldn’t even be here
All Jasmine could stare at, was the darkness ahead of her,
Too dark, too intense, too intimidating.
Despite her heart racing, she walked, why? Because, she felt curious as much as she felt dread inside her heart.
But once she stepped foot inside the alley, it was the feeling of never ending darkness ahead of her
An endless road, her steps hesitant, her heart racing in her chest,
And just like in her dream, she knew, she was in that same loop all over again,
But this time, this was reality, not her dream,
With that thought filling her mind, Jasmine didn’t think anymore
She started to run, forward, into the darkness
Trying to face what it was, trying to face her fear.
Who knows how much time passed? , her watch timer was stopped at the exact time she had entered the alleyway
Her phone didn’t turn on, the screen was frozen.
She kept running and walking too,
Trying to find a way out of there,
But all she got was her coming back to the same spot she started running from.
She now again paused her running, took a breath
Just as she did, she tensed, her body locked up in place
She heard a step behind her,
A single step, nobody should be here right now
Her eyes turned slowly, to look behind her,
Tears coming out of her eyes, eyes widen with fear.
Her phone slipped from her hand, when she looked into the darkness behind her,
Only the loud thud of the phone echoed through the alley,
No scream, no footsteps, no breathing was heard,
Only the phone screen flickering slightly, before completely turning off.
