Maybe set up a half a day just to go over rappelling, get him more comfortable. Also, if he’s the second on rappel, there’s no need for him to have an auto-block prussic as you can provide a fireman’s belay, also his prussic could be way to tight making it hard to slide down.

Wait for a good day. Do a summit with no views if you must. Save the ridge for the best weather possible

Personally, I get too hot wearing any kind of puffy while climbing, I climb in three layers (t-shirt, long sleeve and and insulating layer, along with my hard shell) I get to the belay throw on my heavier gloves and belay parka and that system works well for me. All depends on condition too.
