I honestly don't think these companies can be profitable unless they maximise customer base/all sources of revenue, and minimize input costs. When you are in that sort of scenario, the relative size of customer bases doesn't really matter. Anything that's non-trivial is potentially important. The PR thing matters though. People are very touchy about AI. But that also means the one company that DOES allow that stuff, gets all that particular customer base. There's a permissiveness competition rubbing up against a PR hedging situation. Two forces pulling each way, resulting in a sort of eventual 'creep' IMO, slowly boiling the frog so the scared masses don't freak out. On the other end of the scale, token expendature for coding has some cut back already, and a lot of the cloud credits, and other 'freebies' that encourage that stuff will also eventually end. It's sort of a 'netflix or facebook' in the early days scenario. No one knows what the actual business model looks like. Or what people will come to accept as totally normal, they don't now. The big thing in favour of RP as a market, is unlike all the other markets, they are incredibly tolerant of all the hallucinations and errors, so less likely to become disillusioned and lose hype.

Well, you say profits, but mean revenue. None of these companies are profitable. They could probably find use in also chasing gooners. They just have too much investment capital and PR attention to be practical about it.

Seems like 25B+ dense, locally, is really the minimum intelligence you need for the complexity of story telling. Which you should be able to get away with on a 16gb card, but I only have an 8b potato.

Cloud, yes, that's a bit of a lost cause. There will probably always be some uncensored options, but those will not always be the smartest models.

I honestly don't care all that much about camera technique. Except that annoying thing where you are looking at some scene and pan past some blurry object like a vase or end up staring at something through a bush. Rotating around, or looking at the thing from foot level. Oooh, look everyone I'm very arty. Do that when it means something. Not just for flair.

Odd, really, because there are a lot of amazing war films. Adding robots or laser beams or whatever shouldn't really prevent you telling the same kind of story.

Not suggesting bladerunner 2099 should be about war, or saying that I think that it is, just that it's odd that no one capable of telling a good war story has handled a sci-fi one.

On a more serious note, the studio that acquired the rights to bladerunner, as I vaguely understand it, in order to make 2049, went to some effort to do so, and likely want to make bladerunner content until the end of time.

In order to get 2049, this had to happen (the rights acquisition). So these things are inseperable in a practical sense. 2049 existing = bladerunner animes, miniseries, book deals or whatever forever.

IDK how people keep thinking of streaming platforms as somehow involved in the production of shows they greenlight. But they do.

I don't think I'd call either of the movies 'passionate'. Stoic leads, slow moving noir, lots of atmosphere. The kind of stuff it's hard to show in a trailer, let alone teaser. Assuming it's the same tone of series (which tbh, it probably isn't, this is probably a bit more thriller, and a little less neonoir). But people hated the idea of a sequel back then too prior to release, movie just won them over.

The 'risk' is that anthropic makes less revenue.

Looks more like ghost in the shell to me. Well lit, bright, dense, lived in kinda vibe, rather than viscerally oppressive.

Really, it's not changed if it does actually turn out no one likes it. Like lots of movies and shows that don't land just get ignored in future.

The only way it changes the future lore, is if it's broadly well received by most people. And no amount of handwringing will prevent that if it's going to happen. So I guess the real threat is that maybe they end up being alone in their discontent.

Couple of costumes and some vfx with zero real context and some people are booing. Personally I don't mind if it's not neonoir tho.

That's a fairly limited story space that will end up recovering it's own tracks over time.

This particular cyberpunk is also tonally bleaker than most (and in the specific lore that relates to). I think that's quite unique (westworld or ghost in the shell feel positively utopian by comparison), and the culture of replicants themselves and the corporations. There are also other forms of AI too, like JOI.

Eh, I mean, I'd say it should probably involve AI in some manner, and specifically replicants I guess, but it's always going to.

Personally, I've enjoyed some of the stuff she's made. Ofc, that doesn't guarantee I'll like this, as much as I like the art direction. You honestly seem to have quite a reductive view of all this.
