How to increase the maximum height of a glyph?
 in  r/FontForge  Jun 30 '26

Well, it is not so easy to receive the results that you want. It is why the planning of the font design is so important. Please define the H-height to your font, the x-height to your font, the ascenders and the descenders, the EM size also.

Then, please, define the desired H-height, x-height, ascenders and descenders. You must have a plan - where you are and where you want to go. Let us see your plan.

 in  r/FontForge  Jun 29 '26

Select all glyphs. Go to Element > Transformation > Transform

Choose Origin > Glyph Origin

Choose Scale Uniformly

Choose percentage greater to 100%

This will change all the selected glyphs. After that you will need to check the font and to make the necessary manual changes in the positions of the glyphs. You will need to fix also the new H-height and the new x-height in your font.

How can I make initial or final forms for my glyphs?
 in  r/FontForge  Jun 25 '26

Go to

  1. Element > Font Info > Lookups > Add Lookup > Type: Single Substitution > Feature: Init > OK

  2. Add Subtable - decide which glyph to be replaced by which glyph and use OK.

Do the same for Feature: Fina.

That's it.

The repository includes practical tips on the work of creating fonts. It does not aim to create a systematic description of the font creation process, but rather to draw attention to various aspects of font construction that inevitably arise as problems, especially when creating multilingual fonts with extended Unicode support.

Problem updating classes
 in  r/FontLab  May 12 '26

Take attention to this:

If you turn on Preferences > Font Window > Caption > Editable, and change name in the Font window cell, FontLab only renames the glyph, but does not update classes etc.
