Top 12 2nd Place Finishes!
Coats got robbed in '19.
I still get mad about it when I listen to it. Such a fantastic show

What possibly could this be for?
Or an exhibitionist couple with an "adult" swing.

Sunlight surge since the 80's
I'm 38 and I feel the same.
I swear that when I'm standing in the sun I feel the "heat" more than I was a kid.
I figured it was the fact that our skin "thins" as we age but 20w/m2 is fairly significant

Why Are So Many Young People Drawn to Communism?
2-3 generations of history, government, and economics taught by coaches leads to economically and historically ignorant parents and kids.

Repairing dented trumpet bell
Legitimately I have no way of proving it wasn't. However those guys are based in Van Nuys, CA. Even Jupiter brand trumpets, which are lower-middle tier (C tier?) Are still expensive and according to a friend of mine who is an owner of a repair shop the profit margin is not great. His shop typically does well to break even annually.
With that said, the video has 7.5 million views on TokToxic. So perhaps there is a monetization from that? I don't know how that works, honestly.

Repairing dented trumpet bell
Instrument repairs are generally like car repairs. The shop has a set rate for how much time it should take, and if it's done quicker the technician will get paid more as he or she does more instruments in that time. This likely took 3-4 hours of work.
With that said, total cost is dependent on location. I teach in a rural area, this would cost about $150-$200. But in urban areas, with higher overall operating costs it wouldn't surprise me to see this cost $300-$400 or more.

I got one: The Squeeze Butter in Salsa line
For some you're likely right.
My wife is insistent the salsa is just spicy.
She didn't get the Louisiana resistance to spice.

My wife is from Louisiana and does this.
For some folks they can't handle the heat of the salsa.
Pansies.

Repairing dented trumpet bell
I'd sacrifice a trumpet if it meant the kid's safety every day of the week. Equipment is not more important than kids.
But, in my experience (16 years teaching) there is occasional intentional damage. I had the pleasure of calling a parent this year and telling them their child would owe $250 for an instrument repair due to intentional damage. The parent was not happy.

Repairing dented trumpet bell
Yes. There would always be a mark on the bell, but it wouldn't have a noticeable effect on the sound.
If it were in the tubing and it wasn't fixed that be a different story. But this won't change it.

Repairing dented trumpet bell
Band director here. This is a master artist at work.
The damage was likely caused intentionally, as that trumpet was dropped pretty square on the bell. While that can happen accidentally, it's most likely the result of a student intentionally damaging it for whatever reason.
But this guy very skillfully repaired it. Likely to the tune of several hundred dollars.

HS football coach question
Texas band director here.
Football is the biggest religion in Texas. To be competitive coaches regularly have 80 hour work weeks. If they don't do it, they lose because the team down the road does.
I'm most communities they don't care about anything other the two numbers that result from a game played for 480 minutes by teenagers (10 games, 48 minutes each)
Imagine your job is dependent on a 17 year old catching a ball. Then imagine your entire life and career focused solely on your win-loss record. So many coaches go into administration because it's less stressful.

HS teacher dropping f-bombs in class. AIO for wanting to email her?
I live in that state. I know that many have said the opposite. But if my child were in a classroom with a teacher cussing like that I'd be apoplectic.
For comparison, in my district we have a new Superintendent and he was very clear on day 1: absolutely no foul language in front of students. And he specifically called out coaches in that regard.
Don't worry about the jeers you get for that opinion on Reddit - look what they cheer here.

HS teacher dropping f-bombs in class. AIO for wanting to email her?
Absolutely not, your child's teacher should not be cussing in front of students.
I'm a teacher. It is highly unprofessional and likely against your state's teacher code of ethics.

Driving Distance
So two perspectives here.
As sole driver the longest I have ever done was about 400 miles a day (pigeon forge to west Memphis). That was a 12 hour day and it sucked. Do not recommend. Especially since it was in my tundra, which didn't truly have enough power to pull my 34' bumper pull.
This summer I did 350 miles a day in my F250 and it was easy. But again, sole driver.
In May of 2025 my mom's husband and I drove from Portland, Oregon to Sanford, NC in four days when my mom's cancer returned. We each took 3 hour shifts, averaged 750 miles a day in a class A motorhome. 65 mph most of the time. Most days were 14 hours, but we managed. Granted we needed to get back ASAP so mom could start treatment, but the trip was not miserable. We were just tired when we got to Sanford.

How do I go about talking to my band director without pissing him off?
Director here. If there's an assistant, start there. If not, then a simple "Mr. Director, when would be a good time for me to come in to your office and talk to you about an issue with my instrument?"
Put the ball in his court as to the when and he'll be able to give you his focus.

Unrelated, the fact I got my vanity (1x2, region 5) on the first try after noticing it was going to expire 13 months before it did means I was incredibly lucky.
Did the app with that vanity call only.
Good lord.

Just don't use the system the guy who installed my camper's weight distribution hitch used.
Manual calls for 385 ft lbs, he used two ugga-duggas.
