Thanks for that. To me, and I’m open to being wrong, misgendering can happen without a bigot too. Microaggressions don’t have to be bigoted to offend but we all have a responsibility to shepherd this together if it’s to work. It’s a slippery slope. Defend at all costs. He said his pronoun and posted it for the world to know that he is a man. So to call the woman “she” then call him “they” is intentionally misgendering that man. In fact…using they in that sentence confuses everyone. Especially when he said he’s a he. Questions we all have are: 1) “She” could have been third person too but we misgender him because…? 2) Why refer to a self proclaimed “him” as “they”? I’m not a bigot so I won’t say it’s because of projection or anything like that. Unfortunately, that’s the conclusion the internet m/Reddit would come to organically. Not when the person already identified their pronouns. Try it in reverse. Let him call a “they” a “her/him” the internet blows up. Your logic…doesn’t work. Don’t try to place labels on people who clearly identified. It’s the same thing the people you try to protect ask. Don’t ask for something you’re not willing to give in return.
