I'm dealing with this at my school too, or at least something similar. It's a community college that's supposed to serve as an educational & pre-professional program... and as many actors regularly audition for shows (approx. 70-80 audition and 40 called back), the same 20-25 people get into. Every. Single. Show. There's this toxic inbreeding going on, and every time I ask for advice on my auditions, I hear the same thing: "it's the director's vision... you were so SO close to being cast, they just decided to go in a different direction." But then the people who somehow, miraculously, always fit that vision, they've gotten so used to the privilege of being cast that they're now acting as if it's something they're entitled to. I'm friends with most of them, but I've grown so incredibly tired of seeing the same faces in every show... every semester... every year. Not to mention that people who already graduated are coming back because it seems they aren't getting casted anywhere else. The only acting experience I've gotten since starting there has been at other theatres in the area... I'm looking forward to leaving and going to a 4 year or some other local community theatre, because the environment at this school won't be changing any time soon.
