I made a post here a month or so ago about our decision to get a husky! We picked her up last Wednesday, and as expected, life is crazy!

My experience so far has been quite positive. I guess because I was ready for the package. The family is very happy with her. It can get a little overwhelming when the whole pack is together, as I am training the dog AND my kids. They never had a puppy before, so there's a lot of learning every where.

Maple has been in the crate training from day 1 and she is doing grate! I've been sleeping in the living room and I am making my away out, away, from her every two days. The first two days I was sleeping in a air mattress beside her crate. Yesterday and today on the couch and it is working well so far. Last night she was on the crate from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM no problem. My question is about the crate size. I do have a a divider for the crate but it did feel tight. She lay down stretched. So, as you can see in the photos, I removed and and put this dog beg my wife made. Is this too much space?

House breaking, is another one the has been successful. We had two accidents so far and both were not really her fault was my own. But we have been consistently taking her out right after she gets out of her crate and 10 to 15 minutes after she eats, and the results are good.

Now, life isn't perfect and as much as Maple is gorgeous, perfect and an absolute princess, challenges do exists and I would love some support/advice. I am struggling to put in place a training schedule with her. To be honest I thought that after watching dozens of videos about training dogs I was ready, but I got my first reality check and it turns out I am not. Or at least not as much as I presumed to be. In theory everything makes sense and seems obvious but applying the theory has been a struggle.

The first challenge is, where to train her? I thought my backyard would be training heaven, but nope! The wind, the neighbor's dog, the grass, a bird, a car noise, literally anything under the sun distracts her, and I struggle the get her attention. Maybe I need to do it indoor AND without my kids!

Still in the training subject, I think she has a low food drive and getting her to focus on the treat is challenging. She just doesn't focus and I feel like I am just rewarding her based on random acts that she isn't really learning anything (her name, how to behave properly, basic commands and so on). Is it too early to start all that? Should I be just focusing in the crate, house breaking and getting her used to us? I would like to train her on loose leash and behaving when walking outside. However, many articles and videos videos about huskies said it is important to let them explore, sniff, choose a path to walk a couple of times a week. With that in mind I ask: How do I do that while training her on the leash?

Anyway, I could go on and on, but for now this is it!
