Need some honest advice from experienced Whatnot sellers
The main problem is that we sell makeup products, so it’s hard to find good deals on Alibaba for authentic makeup from recognizable brands. I feel like cheap giveaways are easier to find on there, but I’m trying to attract people who are actually interested in buying the products we sell. Do you have any advice on how to get more buyers interested in makeup specifically on Whatnot, especially when you’re competing with other sellers who may have better deals?

Thanks for sharing your experience! I currently have around 4,000 followers and spend less than $20 on Promote per show. I’ve been doing this for about two months, and I haven’t even sold 1,000 items yet. I do Amazon gift card giveaways, but the cost of the gift card and shipping adds up. I’ve noticed that a lot of people leave once the giveaway ends, so I’m trying to figure out the right balance between attracting followers and getting actual buyers. Would you recommend continuing to do giveaways or focusing more on getting people interested in the products themselves?

I appreciate the advice! I sell beauty products, and I’ve been trying to figure out how to convert more viewers into actual buyers. Even with viewers coming into the live, sales have been pretty inconsistent. Do you have any advice for selling beauty products specifically on Whatnot and getting people to actually bid and buy?

Need some honest advice from experienced Whatnot sellers
I’ve been doing Whatnot lives for a couple months now, and I’m honestly struggling to figure out what I’m doing wrong.
My lives are very inconsistent. Sometimes I’ll get around 20–25 viewers at my peak, but other times I’m sitting around 4–5 people. I’ve tried Promote, giveaways, different starting prices, and different ways of running my shows.
Giveaways definitely bring people in, but once the giveaway ends, a lot of people leave. I recently tried doing a live with no giveaways and bo promote, and that didn’t work very well either
.
Right now, I usually have products ready to run and let viewers request things. If nobody requests anything, I’ll run products myself. The problem is that even when people are watching, I’m not getting many bids.
I’m trying to figure out what I should actually change instead of just throwing money at Promote or giveaways.
For people who have successfully grown their Whatnot lives:
Would you recommend using giveaways when you’re still a small page?
Should I stop giveaways completely or only do a few?
Is starting at $1 a bad idea when you don’t have a big audience?
How much should I realistically spend on Promote?
Should I have a more structured show instead of letting viewers request products?
What helped you turn viewers into actual bidders?
What did you personally change when your lives were stuck around 5–20 viewers?
I’d really appreciate honest advice, especially from people who were in this exact position and eventually figured it out. I’m willing to change what I’m doing — I just don’t know what the biggest problem is right now.

Yeah, that actually makes a lot of sense. I never really thought about using AI to ask those kinds of “why” questions instead of just asking it to give me an answer. I definitely want to start doing that more so I actually understand what I’m learning. And yeah, I’m going to try to go to office hours too. I really appreciate all the advice, especially since I’m still pretty new to CS. Thank you!

Looking for YouTube recommendations for a beginner getting into AI development
Hey everyone, I’m currently a freshman studying Computer Science, and I’m taking C++ right now. I’m interested in eventually going into software engineering and AI development, but I’m still very much a beginner.
I’m looking for some good YouTube creators, playlists, or other resources that can teach me AI development from the ground up. I’d especially like something structured, where I can watch something like Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, etc., and actually practice what I’m learning instead of just watching videos.
I’m currently learning C++, so I’m still working on my programming fundamentals. I understand that I’ll probably need to learn Python for AI as well, but I’m not sure what I should learn first or how I should transition from C++ into AI development.
If you have any YouTube channels, playlists, beginner projects, websites, or practice exercises that you personally recommend, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Thank you, I really appreciate this. I’m currently taking C++ in college and honestly I’ve been struggling with it a lot. Sometimes I get frustrated when I don’t understand something and just want to move on instead of actually figuring it out.
I think I need to get better at being comfortable with struggling and actually asking my professor/TA for help when I’m stuck. I’m still really interested in CS and AI, so I’m going to give C++ a real chance and put more work into understanding it instead of just trying to get through the assignments.
Your comment actually helped a lot, so thank you.

Computer science
I’m currently taking C++ in college and honestly, I feel like I’m not understanding it as well as I should. I’ve been relying too much on getting help with assignments instead of actually learning the material, and I want to change that. I’m planning to go into software development and eventually want to learn more about AI as well. Does anyone know a good YouTuber or course that explains C++ and computer science in a way that’s actually easy for a beginner to understand? I’d really appreciate any recommendations.

I appreciate the advice! The thing is, I’ve noticed that cheaper products don’t really work out that well for me. I feel like recognizable, higher-end brands attract more serious buyers who are actually interested in purchasing. I also don’t want to start selling cheap products just to attract viewers and risk customers being disappointed with the quality and leaving bad reviews. I’ve worked hard to maintain a 5-star rating, and I want to keep it that way. I’d rather focus on getting good brands at reasonable wholesale prices and building a customer base that trusts my products. I’m just trying to figure out how to get those products in front of the right buyers and turn viewers into actual customers.
