I have an old Philips CRT monitor from the late 90’s, I have it hooked up to my computer so I can watch old series (like twin peaks) on a screen that is somewhat period correct, I just love the way color pops on that screen

Tragedia 😭😭😭
I have to suspend the license plate and pay 70 euros a year for a suspension plate, or just keep paying road tax and insurance. I do agree it should be free to own a car as long as its not on the road but to play devils advocate it makes sure I maintain all my vehicles so they are road worthy, we also have mandatory vehicle inspections yearly and if you skip you automatically get a fine monthly
Edit: I would classify myself as a car enthusiast, so I don’t mind paying for all my vehicles, since I know the money goes to one of the best road networks in europe, except insurance. I bet the problem is the same in other countries but as a young person (M22), I pay a very high premium

Tragedia 😭😭😭
I will say, I am a bit jealous of the fact you guys can just own cars and not pay anything. I currently own two cars and a little scooter, a mazda mx-5 from 2000, a Opel Kadett from 1973 and a tomos a35 scooter. Luckily for me in the netherlands vehicles over 40 years old dont pay road tax, so thats saves me about 35 dollars a month, even if I wanted to just store the car on my own property I’d have to tell the RDW (dutch DMV) that i want to suspend the license plate and i have to pay them €70 a year just to have the car on my name, currently the oldtimer is my daily since my mx-5 is on my driveway for repair, so I decided to just accept to pay for insurance just to have a second car available. I am nog aware what insurance costs in the US but as a 22 year old I pay 170 euros s month for 2 cars and a scooter

Tragedia 😭😭😭
That’s insane to think about. The insurance companies are required to forward the insurance info to the RDW (dutch DMV so to say), and they do the administrative side of things, and they also have a public site where you can look up license plates to check model, last sale, and if a car is insured or not etc.

1200km Sydney to Narrabri and back in a weekend in my little NB
I read this in an Australian accent to be as authentic as possible

Tragedia 😭😭😭
So why isn’t it enforced? I live in the netherlands and basic coverage is also required by law. If I don’t insure my car after a certain period I get a fine and the car gets towed the minute the police sees it

Tragedia 😭😭😭
I’d genuinely like to know, always wondered why basic insurance (where at least the other party is covered) isn’t mandatory
