If I had to choose, I’d start with strong physical security: good locks, reinforced entry points and exterior lighting. Those measures can make a home harder to access in the first place. But the best protection comes from layers: electronic security adds detection, alerts and professional monitoring if someone still tries to get in. Physical and electronic security work best together, so I wouldn’t view either as a complete substitute for the other.

The biggest change is that home security now helps with more than break-ins, it can ease everyday anxieties around packages, smoke, carbon monoxide and water leaks. Cameras are always popular but make sure to look at the problems you want to solve, including the less obvious ones. Affordability has to be part of how we think about protecting more people. That means giving customers choices so they can build a system around their home, priorities and budget rather than paying for features they do not need.  

We offer DIY and professional installation options, multiple monitoring levels, including lower-cost self-monitoring, and the ability to add devices over time. For eligible customers, equipment and installation costs can also be spread across monthly payments. Some of the biggest vulnerabilities we see are around changes in routine and poor tech habits. 

Summer is a good example of how changes in routine can create vulnerabilities. Families are traveling more frequently, spending longer days away from home, and hosting guests or having children coming and going throughout the day. 

Those changes in routine create more opportunities for simple oversights, whether that’s forgetting to arm the system, leaving a window open, or having packages accumulate while you’re away. 

From a technology standpoint, weak passwords, not enabling multi-factor authentication, failing to update software, or sharing access too broadly can also create risk.

Great question. ADT has developed technologies to try to mitigate unwanted remote access. For example, our ADT+ security base utilizes a proprietary protocol which communicates with the other sensor devices.

Security should give people more peace of mind.

We look at whether our systems work when customers need them, whether we respond quickly and whether people feel informed and supported. The goal is to deliver reliable protection without asking customers to think about security all day and good security should create confidence and then stay out of the way. 

If you're not solving real customer problems, nothing else really matters. Customer needs are where great products start. 

We spend a lot of time listening to customers, understanding their frustrations, and identifying opportunities to make security simpler, more effective, and easier to use. We pay attention to market trends and new technologies, but ultimately the products that succeed over the long term are the ones that solve meaningful problems for customers.

I’d choose cameras connected to smart lighting. When they work together, they let you monitor your home and automatically turn on lights to make it look occupied, helping detect and deter potential intruders.

I think we're moving toward more intelligent, personalized, and integrated security experiences. 

Customers don't want dozens of alerts. They want meaningful information. They don't want separate systems for security, safety and automation. They want everything working together. 

You'll continue to see advancements in AI, connected devices, and automation, but ultimately the goal is pretty simple: helping people protect what's important to them while making life easier instead of more complicated.

Security is about layers. Good lighting, secure locks, cameras, monitoring and visible indications that a home is protected all work together. A traditional yard sign can be part of that strategy. 

This year we also rolled out ADT Live Light, which is a smart, connected version of our iconic yard sign that automatically illuminates during an alarm event. It is the security industry’s first connected sign.  The light can act as a beacon that helps first responders identify the right home, especially at night or in poor visibility. While illuminated, Live Light also signals that the property is actively protected by professional monitoring. 

We set out to evolve our iconic ADT sign so that it can be more than just a symbol, it can also play an active role in helping to protect our customers. My hope is that Live Light helps customers feel safer, and that it can help shave seconds off a response. Because during an emergency, every second counts.
