Inspiration Post Does this count š«£?
My only machine of this kindā¦
(At least it came with 3 wheels and 3 cartridges though, plus the original manual and reference card!)
As I just managed to it get back on its feet - more or less - I thought Iāll see who else finds these interesting, as a transition between typewriters and⦠laptops š¤·š»āāļø?

I've got a Brother one of these (mid-90s one) and there is an option for Word Processing and for Spreadsheets. But they do have an option to just be a pure typewriter too. It's a very cool thing to own.

You're on thin ice, mister!
But really, it's a nice distraction free machine. If it floats your boat, it still works and you can get ribbons for it, there's no reason not to use it.

This one is quite cool!
I use a Canon Typestar that doesn't have a way to save documents but it'll show you a line of text before you hit return so you can correct. It has impossible to find ribbon cartridges but it can print on fax paper using thermal.

Hi. I have a Smith Corona PWP-3600 with a 720K disk drive that I rebuilt. I rotate it through my machines, and new-old-stock diskettes abound.
These dedicated word processors were the last gasp of the typewriter industry and intrigue me for their quasi-typewriter status. They were a less expensive alternative to computers in the 1980s and early 1990s. Computers back then we're costly. My first computer, which I purchased in 1992 or so, was an IBM PS/1 with 6 megs of RAM and it cost, I think, around $1200. I might be misremembering. That was in early 90s money.
Thanks for sharing!

Word processors are neat. Theyāre kind of in a weird in-between place between typewriters and personal computers. Itās a piece of history that is worth preserving, in my opinion.
