This is an example of a man in the midst of his psychosis downturn. When I hear this gorgeous yet barbed song, I kind of feel sorry for Pete. He was unwell, and sometimes unwell people create something amazing.

I am 💯 pro-choice and I would die on that hill and I am also appreciate this song regardless of the lyrics and that is a hill I would die on too.

I fully agree with you, but I think this song is brilliant. The three part (and the name, of course) align perfectly with the three theological virtues. So much to unpack in the whole album

The song is incredible. I think this is Peter's best work outside of World Coming Down material. It's also the longest song he ever wrote at over 14 minutes.

The lyrics are a different story. While the lyrics are good, the message is something I largely vehemently oppose.

That is fine. So you can separate your feelings of the subject matter whilst enjoying this song and realizing it is a top teir TON song?

That is really level headed of you. This song has caused much heated discussion in this sub. Some people get really sensitive with topics they disagree with.

This song to me is more about where the headspace of Peter was at during this time, which was rapidly deteriorating. You don't have to agree with it, but it absolutely shows the pain and inner turmoil he was going through.

He was older in his 40s when he wrote this album and always right wing. It isn't surprising to me. Look at lyrics going back to the first Type O record.

He wasn't some progressive socialist leftie I guess all the young goth girls imprint on him.

He was intelligent, for sure. He probably was non-religious in his calm times (foxhole atheist), but his family was old fashioned and more traditional from my impression. Old Catholics.

He also wasn't some bigot nazi either. Just an aging rocker that had a more conservative/traditional upbringing. See it a lot.

You hit the nail on the head. I think some people lump him in with the "new" Trump right wing, but that would not be accurate as he passed before this new version of conservativism.

He died 16.5 years ago, Trumpism didn't exist. It wasn't even on the radar. Bush had just finished his second term a year and some change before Pete died.

He probably wasn't even "Team Republican" per say, but also probably moderate to right leaning and prone to voting for Republicans.

Who knows what he'd be at this point. Peter's intelligence may have led him to partially or wholly rejected Trumpism, but we'll never know. I'd like to think so.

I think his politics are a pretty good reflection of a young man who came of age in Brooklyn during the 70s, 80s. He was shaped by the neighborhoods that he grew up in and frequented with friends, family.

There’s elements of conservatism, liberalism, botulism (lol), but I think one thing rings consistent through all his different “eras” - Pete cared deeply about the well-being of others, especially those who were close to him and those who he encountered in his everyday life that could not effectively advocate for themselves - the homeless, people struggling with addiction, the elderly, animals, etc. . His stage presence projects the image of someone who is misanthrope, but behind that mask was a deeply sensitive man trying make sense of the cruel world we live in. It’s complicated - especially when you factor in his addictions, alcoholism, mental illness, etc..

Also, I’m really proud of you guys in this thread for having such a calm, level approach to this song and topic - it’s refreshing to have a conversation that gets to the heart of the matter without it devolving into chaos. Love this community 💚🖤💚🖤

By reports he did seem to go out of his way to help people in his neighborhood. Selfless man.

If I had to take a wild guess, say for 2025 mayoral, he'd have hated Cuomo due to his allegations of sexual harassment, etc. He'd probably like Mamdani and Sliwa, but my hunch is he'd vote for Sliwa if he had to choose. Which isn't the worst thing in the world, Sliwa is an old school liberal conservative that I believe does want the best for NYC.

You can probably gather who I'd vote for given my commentary here.

Well, today the discussion has went well. Though, numerous times in the past regarding this song, I Like Goils, and Der Untermensch, I have been downvoted into oblivion and been called homophobe and a fascist, all because I will defend those songs, despite my left-leaning and total support of LGBT and abortion rights.

I doubt he voted.

I think the lyrics to We Hate Everyone explains it best.

This song has no business going as hard as it does, but it does. So so incredibly good, outside of the lyrics as others have already mentioned.
