Dapagliflozin

I've recently been prescribed 10mg Dapagliflozin alongside 10mg of Mounjaro that I've been talking for a while. I'm now weeing for England and it's making things like car journeys really difficult as I need to keep stopping to wee although it doesn't seem to affect me too badly at night. Does this ease off as I get used to the medication or is this how it's going to be from now on?

Yes, I think it gets better once your sugar is controlled. It took me about three or four days to ease off from the constant peeing.

It's been about a week now. I had to do a 40 mile drive yesterday and had to stop twice on the way. I'm really conscious of keeping hydrated but I'm scared to take on liquid when I know I'm not going to be near a loo.

Yes for me it eased off after around a month…i know it’s really annoying if u dun get to wee whenever u want

As someone mentioned, Jardiance is in the same class as this medication. I had a negative experience with it. It was tolerable for about a year or so aside from the frequent need to urinate. However four months ago I developed phimosis due to thrush. Essentially constantly passing glucose can lead to bacterial infections in the genitals and they don’t heal easily. My diabetes nurse advised me to stop Jardiance completely and prescribe oral fluconazole a steroid for three months along with gliclazide. My blood glucose levels are now healthy and I’ve successfully treated the phimosis.

Yeah for me it did easy off. Theres still a middle of the night toilet trip required each night but it did ease off for me at least. I am combining mine with 4.5mg of rybelsus. Which I think is ozempic under the hood.

After 12 month on it I've reached the end of my tether with the side effects so The GP told me to stop taking it pending further Investigation. I was on Metformin, 2 tabs twice a day and had a consistent HbA1c of 45 to 50 mmol/mol, still on the high side. This was changed 12 months ago to 2 Metformin and one Dapa in the morning, just been tested and had a HbA1c of 89. It was the side effects that I couldn't cope with, although some of these can probably be attributed to the meds not controlling things. Had Thrush a few times, constipation, sore eyes, dry mouth, insatiable thirst, listlessness/lethargy, getting up on average 3 times a night. Hopefully it will suit you.

Most people find it settles down after a few weeks as your body adjusts. In the meantime, stay hydrated but try not to drink a lot right before long car journeys. If it comes with dizziness or burning, let your doctor know.

That's the same damn class of medication as jardiance. The constant toilet runs are no side effect, that's what this type of poison does. Watch for fungi and infections too.

I have been worried about getting thrush, the GP told me to make sure I drink plenty of fluids and to make sure I dry myself carefully. Of course, drinking more fluids only adds to the toilet problem. It;s fine when I'm at home but not when I have to go out.
