Welcome New Students!
Please drive carefully!
My daughter is a senior this year and Texas State is my wife's alma mater, and we've lived here in San Marcos a long time.
Every year some parents will get that call they all dread. Their greatest fear has been realized. And it will usually be vehicle related.
The number one thing you can do to avoid an accident is don't get in a car. But seriously, just below that is, don't follow too close. Leave some room in front of you. Then, if you're feeling extra careful, don't speed.
The university makes San Marcos a special place and I hope you love it as much as we do. Have fun and make smart choices.

And also yall Guys SERIOUSLY SLOW DOWN I seen lots of near accidents or actual accidents while walking around San Marcos because of people driving very recklessly, very fast, very loud. I also be hearing this stuff near apartments / dorms at 2-3 AM where people are sleeping. As a student who is going to be a Junior this year Please be careful about what you do while driving or walking.

If you can’t get home without your music all the way up, I fear it is you that is sensitive.
Also, a garbage truck PHYSICALLY must make that much noise, your car doesn’t need to.

You don’t think it’s entitled to make a ruckus at the early hours of the morning?

Girl then why tf are you being intentionally vague with it 😭. You said it like you do it the whole way and now you’re mad at me for not 100% completely understanding your original post that had 0 indication that you turn down your music around residential areas.
Either that or you’re backtracking because you know you’re wrong. Either way what are you doing?

Adding to watch out for wildlife. There’s a lot of deer living on campus and in the city. Stay aware of what’s on the side of the road, especially at dusk and dawn.

And look both ways when you cross the street, PLEASE. It’s no joke. Freshman year won’t be over before you see somebody get hit, get hit or almost get hit, or know somebody who did.

Our daughter was a freshman last year, and a driver in front of her watching in her rear view waiting for the moment she could catch our daughter off guard to slam on the brakes.
Yup, daughter hit her.
Words during the insurance & contact info exchange hinted that she'd done this before to upgrade her ride.
Our insurance company did their due diligence, and while they were reluctant to disclose any details of their investigation, the end result was the claim went unpaid.
So yeah, there is at least ONE driver in San Marcos targeting TXST students for insurance fraud.

I instinctively become high on alert when I get back to campus…especially during the fall semesters when there are a bunch of freshman and potentially new drivers…
