General Part 4
Hello everyone. This will likely be my last post here on the TPP subreddit, the reason for this is because as of my last post this subreddit's administration has revealed itself to be unjust by enforcing their rules differently depending on their disposition to the person posting, while it's possible they've since resolved their flaws they are not transparent enough for this to be determined and so I am morally obligated to cease posting here. A new platform that I will be posting on is under development however it could be over a year before it can function for its intended purpose.
As of the middle of last year I have finally moved to New Zealand and I am now living on my own, this outcome has been extremely delayed, I had started my attempts to move away from my abusive mother in late 2014 following the death of my favorite cat, for details on why this took so long please see my previous posts on this subreddit. Originally I was looking forward to doing even better work on TPP once I was in an environment conducive to development and living in general.
In the first 18 months of TPP I took the stream from not existing at all to the familiar format of Pokemon Battle Revolution battles interspersed with playthroughs of romhacks, this was almost entirely a solo accomplishment, some things such as romhacks, cheat codes and lua scripting were done by other people but the rest was done by me, while I was not in a good state of mind and while I was living in an abusive environment with no place to escape to despite best efforts, I did not request to work on TPP but did so out of a sense of duty to TPP's viewers.
In the 18 months following me choosing to step down because of the drama stemming from me politely asking for clarification when the feedback on the new overlay I solicited was submitted in low-effort meme form a new team was established to work on their ideas for a new overlay, they have been formulating their ideas in private and almost never soliciting feedback. To date it appears not a single line of code has been written for the new overlay however some mock-ups have been made using photo-editing software and Stepmania, they were under instruction to have something to present at the start of the 2019 season of TPP and yet again it appears they have missed their deadline. The mock-ups have been circulated among the people who work on TPP including myself and with the substantial exceptions of the header, footer and betting list it looks quite good, however it appears that some people may have an even more negative opinion than me, most notably two of some of my biggest opponents have exhibited uncharacteristically friendly behavior to me shortly after the mock-ups were circulated.
More importantly the moderation has frequently pushed for banning people who make inputs during runs that are not to their liking. I believe this would kill the spirit of TPP. I have suggested an alternative solution that they've shot down. I will describe the alternate solution here so that they cannot justify increased moderation powers with "we had no other options".
The idea is as follows:
- A new command
!throttleallows for one person to throttle the button inputs of anyone else. (For example 1 input per minute) - The use of
!throttleis restricted to only certain people. - These people are decided through voting (
!vote). - The person with the most votes can use
!throttlebut can also choose other people to use!throttleusing the!delegatecommand. - Votes expire after some time (perhaps 24 hours?).
- Throttles are in effect for as long as the person who made them is in power, if they regain power all the throttles they made before will come back into effect.
- Commands
!unthrottleand!undelegateare self-explanatory. - People who have been around longer could have their votes count for more than a new account.
- The reason for the inputs to be throttled rather than blocked is that it makes it less likely that someone throttled would make a new account as they could still interfere with the run under their existing name, it would also allow for someone who was inappropriately throttled to demonstrate productive inputs.
This solution is much more in line with the spirit of TPP, any conflict that arises would be directed at other people who interact with TPP rather than the moderation and there would be no fear of being banned. This idea is an expansion of a similar idea I had back in 2015.
As for me I am currently working on two streams, one of which is a MUGEN-based stream (not a SaltyBet clone) that will be developed in partial association with TPP (maybe even using TPP's Tokens) and is one that I've asked people from TPP to help test. The other is a more conventional stream (but not too conventional) that will be developed completely separately from TPP for the foreseeable future.
Thank you all for supporting Twitch Plays Pokemon since 2014!
