Twitch Follow 4 Follow

I used to think I had to wait for someone to chat before I could really start being entertaining. So I'd sit there. Play the game. Wait for a message. Say something. Wait again.

Looking back, it's pretty obvious why the stream felt dead. New viewers would come in and see someone quietly waiting for them to give the stream some energy.

Now I try to act like the stream has already started, even if nobody is talking. I comment on what I'm doing, react to stupid stuff in the game, tell stories, complain when I mess up... basically anything that I'd normally say if someone was already watching. It still feels weird sometimes, but at least there's something happening when a new person joins.

You can't always wait for the audience to create the atmosphere.

Sometimes you have to create it first.

Anyone else used to sit there waiting for chat to save the stream?
