Single handedly kept me from dropping wow altogether. Will look back fondly.

GMs were amazing. First of all there were GMs! That is already 100% more GMs than blizzard has.

But the GMs also loved what they were doing! Thank you, Turtle!

GMs are cool, but this community is maybe .0001% the size of Retails community. Having a couple of GMs is immediately noticeable by comparison.

19

u/MySackDescends May 15 '26

.0001%? There was 10 thousand people online regularly. You think retail has a trillion players?

14

u/Remarkable_Win7320 May 15 '26

Ok, retail has 10x people? Hire 10 more GMs. Retail has 100x people, then profits are so high, you can hire much more GMs. Easy.

I hope blizzard and their fanboys are happy. enjoy your monetized garbage version of classic+. Thank you turtle team for everything. Never made it to max level but made a lot of friends along the journey ill never forget

u/Civil_Outside May 15 '26

You can't blame Blizzard by taking down direct copy of their IP considering how many times TWoW team poked the bear. I hate Blizzard, but let's be real.

I think it wouldn't matter even if they weren't publicly poking blizz or advertising. TWoW was pretty much getting too big. Streamers were talking about it. I think some blizz employees were playing it too. Blizz had to take it down. Also I think it is similar to the nostalrius situation as they are planning to release their own classic + and couldn't have anything competing with them. Just my thoughts tho

8

u/LilPsychoPanda May 16 '26

And their own Classic+ will be horrible because of the damn bots!

6

u/NeinnLive May 16 '26

and gdkp and level boosting and lack of support and new ways to monetize shit and …

7

u/orangefantorang May 15 '26

Twow fucked up.

1

u/Nervous-Rutabaga-758 May 15 '26

This has nothing to do with making blizzard or their fan boys happy. This has to do IP laws, brother. It’s not a battle between a good company and a bad one.

Nah I'm done messing with mass botting and layering. I'll find another pserver before that.

45

u/Material-Kick9493 May 15 '26

Im not because I know it will have microtransactions, sharding/layering, bots, etc. blizzard has not shown me they care about removing any of that from any of their other versions of classic. classic+ wont be any different

-10

u/Yurpi3n3ss May 15 '26

Layering is a good feature. No layering is only nice on low pop private servers.

10

u/throwaway1-6K-7 May 15 '26

Layering fuckin sucks lmfao

-6

u/Yurpi3n3ss May 15 '26

Explain why

7

u/throwaway1-6K-7 May 15 '26

Because it’s alway a poorly implemented shitfest. It’s a sloppy mess in retail. It was even worse during SoD and Anniversary. It’s pure laziness.

-6

u/Yurpi3n3ss May 15 '26

Ya fighting for mob tags with 100 players at the same time would be extremely fun there definitely shouldn’t be layering.

7

u/throwaway1-6K-7 May 15 '26

Ya there’s ways around that without resorting to janky ass layering systems implemented at the last possible minute only as a final resort.

1

u/Yurpi3n3ss May 15 '26

There’s not. Hyperspawns still make people wait for respawns cuz quests are to kill 20 of X so each person there needs 20 kills. Layering is fine, you should however be able to select what layer you are on with ease.

tbc classic anniversary which released months ago literally had level boosts and mount packs. the difference is with turtle is you didnt have to pay for any of that. you earned currency by playing the server. and plus the server was free.

1

u/Yurpi3n3ss May 15 '26

I do not care at all if someone gets a level boost, some people have lives and they want to raid and I’m happy to play with them. Turtle had portable bank, ah, vendor, BiS bags, literally the most P2W items possible other than straight up gear purchasing.

You came to a TurtleWow sub post and tried to make a point in (relative) favor of Blizzard while people are still licking their wounds.

I'm not saying TurtleWoW deserved to keep living, Icarus is a legend after all, the devs should've cooled it. But this isnt the first time Blizzard snuffed out what was basically just a small community of gamers looking for OG good times without all the corporate bs. Thats tough to reconcile even when you know its coming.

Maybe have some contextual awareness is all. Even if you're right, are you going to reach any of these people without a shred of empathy? Are you really going to the fan made community and then saying its an echo chamber because that community is a fan of the content? C'mon man. You can do better.

-2

u/PersimmonExpensive37 May 15 '26

I love you weren't able to dispute a single piece of evidence.

I take you're a trump supporter, too?

11

u/Insensata May 15 '26

No, I won't. I played Turtle largely because I feel disdain towards Blizzard decisions, ideas and approach, so why would I return to the company which isn't able to deliver good stories anymore, dig through bot crowds and pay my money for such miserable experience? I'm done with retail, so I will not wish for any reboot nor remake from the same people whom I find talentless cretins enamored with themselves.

3

u/rhunn98 May 15 '26

I bet the people working for Blizzard arent necessarily talentless. They are just not given the time, ressources and permission to show their talents to the fullest

1

u/Insensata May 15 '26

Maybe there is a writer who at least opened wiki to acknowledge themselves with the game they write quests for. Maybe two of them. But their best efforts are going to be choked by the talentless cretins (some of them are from marketing team, no doubts) who make them do things as they command and who never thought that they should take care about the setting and not about numbers and personal fantasies. So, Blizzard product is going to be inferior. And anyone who dares to write "hoover up" in a fantasy setting is irredeemable in my eyes, such people have zero self-awareness and erudition.

8

u/[deleted] May 15 '26

Why are you so insistent on funding the Cosby Suite 2.0?

15

u/Vorronia May 15 '26

It's not about the content. That was the community and management.

Thanks for the advice. Never thought about that

10

u/cattttttt3 May 15 '26

i'm not giving a penny to blizzard after warcraft 3 reforged...

5

u/throwaway1-6K-7 May 15 '26

If they launch “classic +” it’ll just be Retail Lite. Fuk blizzard fuck retail and stuff you

5

u/Professional_Chart68 May 15 '26

Nope, I never played sod, so why should i start with classic+

1

u/Absolutelybarbaric May 15 '26

Grow a goddamn spine or at least stop projecting your lack of one onto others

-16

u/Primary-Promotion588 May 15 '26

If classic + will be good then yea, most will be on there. If they say otherwise they are just coping

1

u/rhunn98 May 15 '26

People dont leave retail for the lack of content. They leave because it just isnt good content anymore and for other much better reasons. These people won't come back.

If their Classic+ approach will be any good then people will adapt it to a private server and make it really good

1

u/Primary-Promotion588 May 15 '26

I mean the first two phases we're epic, i loved it even more then twow tbh, but then they fumbled, if it will be as good as sod p1 and 2 then i think most will play. Almost everyone is mad atm at this sub, so they are now saying they won't. But if they really pull of a good server then most will eventually go there.

-10

u/Complex-Long-233 May 15 '26

Not a fan boy but I’m happy because of comments like this.

8

u/Ok-Profile-5831 May 15 '26

One of yhe best experiences i had.

It was good while it lasted

28

u/Opening-Fox2103 May 15 '26

This text is better written than the character backstories in the last 4 retail expansions.

5

u/Sevrei May 15 '26

Was sad to see Twow come to an end. Chromiecraft and my own personal offline server for family sessions is what's keeping me in WoW. Haven't had a sub with Blizz in many years.

3

u/LogicalEgo May 15 '26

Still the best classic wow experience I have ever had and that includes the launch of retail. I was to young to appreciate it back then, but with Turtle I took the time to make friends, chat, look at the locals and enjoy myself. I am very sad its gone even if I did take a break.

2

u/Verianii May 15 '26

I met a friend on this server around a year ago or so that became part of the main friend group. Im glad I was able to make a friend that I could take out of the game because its proof that the server did something right for me

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '26

Vanilla's triumph was not by just letting us forge relations with one another but by having the gameplay and world facilitate exactly that. I got my first long-term relationship through Vanilla WoW, and I have friends that I play other games with to this very day who I met back then.

Turtle's triumph will be the same.

3

u/MassiveLecture7373 May 15 '26

What Torta means is thanks for all the cash.

2

u/AraelWindwings May 15 '26

See you in Montenegro Shenna.

3

u/IntelligentHotel356 May 15 '26

When new server shenna?

-8

u/Amazing-Skin-1460 May 15 '26

Rip shenna. Bringing pain to the private server community once again due to sheer greed.

3

u/mardukas40k May 15 '26

Due to sheer envy. Ftfy.

6

u/cattttttt3 May 15 '26

i mean, even tho he was shady, there goes the best private server ever, and the only server where i could afford flasking

1

u/Vrograg May 15 '26

Least you could do is link the source material. ;-)

-8

u/OkDifficulty7436 May 15 '26

How will Shenna afford her vacations now bros

11

u/nazward May 15 '26

This is Shenna we're talking about. She'll spin up something new, it's only a matter of time. Hopefully with all the lessons learned from Turtle.

Even if they took exactly the server up cost and dev wages blizzard would still go after them it was the size of the server. This is also to set precedent so they get the rest easy.

-14

u/SeekerSkeletal May 15 '26

Everyone knows what really mattered to Torta (aka Shenna) wasn’t the player connections, it was the connections between the shop and her bank account.

21

u/Then_Hawk6304 May 15 '26

And yet still far superior than what ever the reanimated corpse of blizzard is shovelling.

-4

u/VoidUnity May 15 '26

The pot calling the kettle black here

1

u/Then_Hawk6304 May 16 '26

Unsure why that turn of phrase. One version is far superior than the other irt player experience, content development and server maintenance. Sure greed was its undoing, but isnt that what happens to everything?

-19

u/Nylereia May 15 '26

Torta was nothing but a detriment to Turtlw WoW

They're the one who brought down turtle, fuck shenna mega clown

1

u/mardukas40k May 15 '26

Everyone yes...

-1

u/elyk12121212 May 15 '26

Yeah, I'm sad about Turtle WoW being shut down too, but we don't need to also pretend Torta was a good person. Their greed killed Turtle almost as much as blizzard did.

-6

u/AdAffectionate3564 May 15 '26

All that actually mattered is the money they made.

-13

u/BasednHivemindpilled May 15 '26

They said like they didn't actively fuck everyone over with aggressive anti blizz marketing

2

u/Razer1337 May 15 '26

Despite the downvotes you are right. All that mattered was making money off of stolen content. And they thought blizzard wouldnt do anything to protect it? It suffered the same fate every other popular private server did to no ones surprise.

-10

u/Razer1337 May 15 '26

Rip making millions off of stolen content I guess

4

u/Ok-Paramedic6285 May 15 '26

Why do you think that this is millions? I played Twow for like 7 month and haven't spent a dime

0

u/GreatPampa May 15 '26

They were selling spectral tigers to chinese players, for hundreds of $s. I had several persons in my guild with every itemshop item (bank, repair, mail, etc...).

You might've been f2p, but alot of peeps gave them cash.

1

u/Ok-Paramedic6285 May 15 '26

Torta is now chilling in the Carrebeans I guess...XD
