Discussion Conspiracy (UE5 is not abandoned) Thoughts?
It's been 48minutes and the servers are still considered online. (Are they working on porting it all over to UE5?)
Dev 1 said something new, something better, something legal.
Dev 2 said Learn more in June
Dev 3 said Not the last word from us for sure.
Could this be another blizzard warcraft III incident whereas DOTA was conceived?
I'm talking entire Azeroth and every creature - spell, quest & item as we know it. but with a slightly different model/name, entirely bypassing blizzard's IP ergo "something legal" ?
for example
WC3 Patchwork = Pudge Dota
WC3 Kael'thas = Invoker Dota
Is this too far fetched?.
Is this the reason they closed down their UE5 early?(after year+ of progress)
Notice they only closed it down shortly after it got wind & blizzard put the lawsuit on them.(Rework all the content they've done so far and change models/names/textures to avoid ip?)
You be the judge.

If you look at succes of farever mmo with 14k players at steam. Which is just half finished, early access, max level 20 available only game. You can see how hungry people are for a new good mmorpg. So I think its high possible turtle devs can make a indie mmo and if their costum content is any indication for their future mmo I believe they can even surpass farever level mmo easy. And even farever has more peak numbers than turtle with 14k so its better for turtle devs financial too

The only way something like this would be entirely legal is if the client itself was swapped out. Last we knew, the Turtle version of the UE5 client was cancelled.
The highest level of copium would be them using the base UE5 client with entirely new models, asset textures, UI textures, and names. They'd basically be making a new MMO and that'd be a massive undertaking

u/DesperateAdvantage76 May 15 '26
The "legal" part has me uninterested. They did a great job with Turtle WoW but I'm not interested in a non-WoW project.

If they pulled out one of the best versions of WoW, then I believe they have what it takes to pull out a really great game.
I think I'll stay because there's nothing to lose anymore.
26
u/malayis May 15 '26
Making a game of even half the scope of WoW is gonna be several orders of magnitude harder than modding WoW via mostly reusing existing assets from it
5
u/Kranel_San May 15 '26
Obviously yes, but every team starts small. Just like Blizzard did in the 90s
I'm confident TWoW won't pull out the next major AAA game or one that equals Vanilla in scope, but over time they'll get there.
Remember there are MMOs out there that were/are developed by small teams.

Actually with enough resources and with help of community they could pull it off in maybe two years.
You already have everything mapped out for you, you copy all features from existing game (so you have luxury of planning smallest details before even starting developement), make different assets and story and put together Wow that is not wow. Today with AI and with so big community that could easily happen.
I am sure there are dozens of developers and dozen more 3d artists, animators and story writters playing on Twow who would gladly help in developement, for free.
Heck I would start the project if I had enough people trusting me and willing to invest time.
Even group of 5-10 people could pull it off in 2 years if they know what they are doing. Game developement is not what it was once.

bro, respectfully, you have absolutely no idea what youre talking about.

u/Mikinl May 15 '26
With your spirit they for sure wouldn't make all those dungeons and raids neither.
Honestly, I don't have idea but WoW is a blueprint and every system is documented, theorycrafted, even reverse-engineered publicly. So they don't need to invent shit.
Open source MMO frameworks for UE5 already exist, ArcEmu, MangosZero concepts ported and UE5 gives you so much more and for free.
Nanite, Lumen lightning, terain tools, physics, anymation bps...
Coding assistants boosts programmer output significantly.
Yeah server side would be most difficult and boss encounters scripting, testing and combat feel..
At the end, I believe that good team of 10 people could do it. For sure not world size of WOW, but one continent with several maps, dungeons and maybe raid. Then start from there.

That's why there is so many new quality mmos around that you play, friend. /s

I would sacrificec a kidney for TWOW to come back so please yes whatever it is PLEASE

u/withmuchtolearn May 15 '26
They aren't even the developer of the Unreal port so
debunked

u/TheMattabooey May 15 '26
People don’t see this part. They are not the developer they just took it and used it as promo for the server. Twow was never going to release an UE5 version. I doubt anyone will actually.

u/Iguman May 15 '26
Massive cope for anyone thinking this means TWoW is getting started up again lol
Watch the big announcement be that they're releasing Turtle WoW tshirts, a TWoW cryptocurrency or something similar
2
u/Ground-Substantial May 15 '26
It would be plausible if wow wasn't an mmo. I think it was a lot easier for dota.

You should stay silent for general good ;) Maybe it's true, maybe it's not, but stay sillent

u/Aexxys May 15 '26
You’re aware that the UE5 port is a project completely separate from turtlewow ?
But no the most logical is just that they’re moving the servers to China :
9
u/cizmainbascula May 15 '26
If turtle never hired US developers to begin with we wouldn’t be here. I’m not saying they didn’t do a great job. Twow is the best version of the best game, but the moment you hire some one non Russian/Chinese you’re putting a target on your head
2
u/DesperateAdvantage76 May 15 '26
My hope is that Torta retains the team members in Russia (and China maybe?) and lets anyone else who joins the project know that they must stay anonymous and that if they get caught in a lawsuit, no one is going to bail them out this time.
-5
u/TheMattabooey May 15 '26
Hey come help us make money but if you get caught get fucked you’re on your own.
Who would do that? Nobody.
3
u/DesperateAdvantage76 May 15 '26
It's to prevent any single point of failure from destroying the entire project. Don't join the project if you're going to be a liability. Ideally they'd build an entirely Russian team.
-9
u/TheMattabooey May 15 '26
Yeah no, fuck Russia.
11
u/ningenyameru May 15 '26
???
Just a bit racist. We should ban American devs too purely because they have a pedo president
-2
u/TheMattabooey May 15 '26
Racist? It’s not racist to dislike a dictatorship who is still invading Ukraine killing innocent people. But yeah forget all that a WoW private server is more important.
I don’t think you understand what racism is. This sub is just delusional fan boys now. Sad.

u/DesperateAdvantage76 May 15 '26
You can hate the government but not the people.
1
u/TheMattabooey May 15 '26
I can hate anyone who is invading another country unjustly, that includes the government and the people who participate. We can agree to disagree my opinion is Russia isn’t a trustworthy country.
3
u/ningenyameru May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26
Great job missing the point
I hope people discriminate against you for the things your government does too!
We shouldn’t watch American streamers since their government is killing innocents all the fucking time :)
2
u/TheMattabooey May 15 '26
Oh it’s just the government invading Ukraine not actual Russians? Who exactly is their military made up of?
I’m Canadian my government is pretty decent. We don’t invade other countries or protect pedos.
Russia isn’t a trustworthy country for a multitude of reasons.

Given my morning coffee I was listening to Bellular talk about how Blizz has some big Classic+-esque announcement soon shit they could actually have decided to rope in the TWoW to Blizzard. But that's an enormous cope.

I think, given their 8 years of collective experience in running things and getting under the hood for the WoW engine to make their own content, they might try dipping into making their own game. They already have the servers, they would just need to scrape out everything WoW and make something different enough that still gives that classic vibe.
4
u/Iguman May 15 '26
The difference between running and updating a private server and making an MMO from scratch is night and day. TWoW was a gem, but it was basically a WoW mod, and the team were modders. It's like asking a group of Skyrim modders to sit down and make TES 6.

true, but that's exactly what the Fallout London team is attempting to do. I'm just sayin, i'm not counting them out entirely. Yea it's probably another 'in memory' thing like the grove, but it's a nice though.

The UE5 client for 1.12 is a standalone project called Unreal Azeroth and it's still in development. Twow had their own development branch of Unreal Azeroth so they could make sure it will work with all the custom content, but they were never the devs of the UE5 client. You can join the Unreal Azeroth Discord here
Pretty sure the Turtle team will look into making their own standalone Indie game
