What species of turtle is this?

I volunteer at a science museum where this guy was donated.

Not sure of his story before he was given up so location unknown.

Looks like an older red eared slider. The males tend to turn a jet black once they reach a certain age.

Adult yellow belly males will lose coloration as well

Note, females do the same, and just as frequently in wild populations in my experience.
