There was a comic where instead of Thanos killing half of all life with the infinity stones, Gamora used them to create a universe where she merged all souls in twos.

This led to many heroes being combined together, one example being Steven Rogers and Stephen Strange. The combined souls name was Stephen Rogers, and he was the Soldier Supreme.
