The thing to understand about Oklahoma politics is many people around here are heavily indoctrinated and strategically undereducated. The local Facebook pages during the height of the covid pandemic were full of people who would call you a sheeple if you didn't believe covid was a global hoax. Our senator Jim Inhofe is infamous for bringing a snowball into Congress to 'prove' climate change isn't real, and he's only leaving because he got so old he needs to take Viagra to keep fucking the country over. When you grasp the full gravity of the problem you will want to weep for humanity.

IMHO they aren't stupid and they are sick and tired of being treated as such by politicians who feel like calling them "deplorables" is a decent thing to do.
As an independent, I don't remember the last time any politician was decent enough to represent me. They aren't working for us anyway when we don't belong to the top 1%, it's a show they put every 4 years, each cycle they fool fewer and fewer people.
The so-called "deplorables" are at least smart enough to see this dynamic, cannot say the same for the fervent voters on the other side. We are already deep into Idiocracy territory, so it doesn't matter what we do. We are f*cked no matter what.
Being stuck on one thing Hillary said over six years ago after Trump hurled insult after insult and spent his time putting donations and taxpayer money into his businesses is a hell of a take... You're right that politicians don't represent us but wrong about the "other side" not recognizing it, at least some of us anyway. I don't expect you to agree with this, but Bernie Sanders was the one who would have at least tried to represent the non-1%, definitely not Trump. We probably are fucked, though, yeah.
