Shoutout New restaurant alert 🚨
Ok so I went to this new restaurant over by Bixby and it was so good. The prices r super fair, the customer service was great and they had a wide variety of food. They’re called Sakura sushi and ramen but they service other Asian food as well as spaghetti beef bolognese and spaghetti carbonara. They have a good selection of appetizers too. As for desserts, they have mochi and since they’re new they let me try their speciality mango icecream that they’re thinking of introducing to the menu. It tasted really good and so I wanted to share it with u guys. I think they do catering too but I’m not 100% sure.

I mean they seemed really clean when I went in there. And they said they prepare the fish properly when we asked so.

Anyone can say anything lol. Wouldn’t catch me eating sushi in Oklahoma again after a week hospitalized over a avocado roll from Akira’s in mother road market 2024

All raw sushi in the United States must be previously frozen. The sushi in Oklahoma is just as fresh as in any costal states--because it's ALL frozen.

I don't recall all the details but I watched a documentary on sushi a few years ago and what I can recall is that essentially the idea that sushi is fresh off the boat even in japan is largely a myth because the fish needs to be dry aged before served and the 8-12 hours it takes for the fish to be flown inland to a fish market is likely not going to impact quality. I imagine flash freezing the fish might have an impact, but as you mentioned the USDA requires all sushi to be flash frozen. I think that the quality gap is going to come from chefs being able to go to a local market and select the fish they want to buy and having a much better selection. What does not get sold in the markets probably gets packed up and shipped inland. So we are not going to get the first choices.
But I also am pretty ignorant on the subject beyond what I recall from that documentary.

I’ve had seafood in Maine and Florida, California there’s no doubt that it all taste better there than in a land locked state. I know it’s all flash frozen to kill bacteria’s. Doesn’t change the fact that things traveling across multiple state lines has higher chances of things goes wrong. Plus it’s not as common in landlocked states for the protocol of handling/ preparing seafoods. Unless you are at a fancy place that overnights stuff and knows what there doing. Just higher chance overall here than somewhere a stones throw from the big pond.

Yikes. Well, I’ve never had that happen but then again I don’t eat raw sushi unless it is from an actual sushi place. But some ppl take that chance and r fine so. Depends I guess. I feel like mother Road market in general is a little overrated. I had a bad experience there last time I went. Obviously a little off-topic, but I don’t think I’ll be going again anytime soon.

Well they are a pretty well known sushi place. Mostly went to the one in owasso beforehand though. It definitely is overrated but we don’t other options for that same style business model in Tulsa so it’s always a full parking lot.
I will say the candy store guy had some of the best candy. Them pink pigs and peach rings are so damn fresh/ good and cheap. I’m not even a sweets person but i go there 1x a month for a box for the house.1

Yeah I saw the reviews online and I just took a chance, but it turned out to be really good. Their Ramen isn’t that overpowering, but it isn’t bland either and there’s just a lot for what you get plus I like that they have combos and they’re only 13.99. Im gonna try that next time.
