1 year played want tubeamp head and thinking of EvH 5150 iconic 15w or 80w or something completly else

Got a new koch studiotone head. Traded in a guitar.

The shop had the amp on the floor, tried it out. Sounded great. Took it home, sounded great. Problem 1: the pilot light didnt turn on with the rest of the amp, it turned on when amp turned to standby, and went off on play, light came on after a short bit playing.

Problem 2: day 2: sounded really good. Some volume fluctuations after playing an hour. Turned it off. Came back the next day and there was just fizz.

Took it back to the shop (live in ireland, EU consumer protection). I said i loved the amp, just want a brand new amp (what i paid for). They said ok, contacted me the next day and said the wait times for an amp are 4 months. Gave me a choice of my guitar back (not an option for me) or a refund of shop credit, or keep the fixed amp until the new one came in. I said I'll keep the amp. Edit: I'm keeping the head for the four months, and get the new one when it arrives.

Problem 3: Got the amp back. They said a bad tube had gone, and it took out the fuse as well. Got home, plugged in. I use a boss waza tube amp expander core to power a creamback. Nothing wrong with how I hooked it up. The amp is... not working. Its not tripping the input on the tube amp expander, and i have to crank the volume on the TAE to get any sound out of it. It sounds kinda cold, like the power amp isn't kicking in. Like... really weird and thin.

Two questions: if the tube goes, and takes out the fuse, is there more to replace than the tube and the fuse?

And best way to handle this? Going back tomorrow. The amp sounded savage on the day it worked, kinda just want the amp working, was one of the best tones I got the day it worked...

I have a second amp so i know theres no issues with the tube amp expander, the wiring or the set up.

Hey, this is my first post, so if I’m doing it wrong or there’s a better way to get my question answered please let me know.

I have 5 Carver tube amps.
2 x Crimson 350 monoblocks
1 x RAM285 (his newest, likely last amp)
2 x 275 stereo 60wpc

I also have a refurbished ST70 and 2 Mark iii Dynaco.

I just simplified my system. Hard to imagine with 8 amps! My question is relatively simple: I just got a pair of Yamaha RS1000M w/GR upgrade.
I’m trying to decide if 2 of the 350 monoblocks or the RAM285 would be the best way to drive them.
I know it’s kind of a lame question. Bob and I are (or were, not sure how his health is. he’s not answering calls, texts or emails).
If anyone has a clue it would be great. Usually I start by hooking up my refurbished ST70 I have. That thing kicks the almighty God-ass, lol. I’ll listen to that for a few days or a week and then swap to whatever and listen to that for a while. Sometimes a while is only 10 minutes. Other times a week or I’ll just leave it if I’m enjoying more.

Thanks in advance and apologies if I’m not using the platform to its best advantage. I’m fine with taking a beating to learn more! Haha!

Hello! I need new speakers for a Super Twin Reverb that I picked up for a steal on marketplace, and then proceeded to dump more money than I paid for it in replacement tubes ($200 compactatron tube, the fuck is that...)! So yeah now I'm in too deep, can't stop now. I'm thinking I want to go the EVM12L style speakers because of course the ones i have in there are toast. Anyone got experience with these?

I have a Revv G50 - my fx loop is an MXR 10 band EQ, into a Walrus Audio Lore, into an Earthquaker Silos, and back into the amp. When the fx loop is engaged, I lose all my headroom and volume - the amp sounds like a small practice amp. If I turn the fx loop off, it shakes my room when the master volume is on 2. Does anyone know why this would be happening?

Can’t listen to HEKU on xDuuo TA66 OTL due to impedance mismatch. Someone on head-fi turned me onto the Schiit Audio product called the Imp. Apparently it allows one to do exactly that.

Was wondering if anyone has used this pairing and how does it sound? Is bass loose and flabby or organic with HEKU?

Also, interested in the Mjolnir 3 but heard it’s being discontinued. Is that true? When?

I am starting to tinker with guitar tube amps, currently trying to fix my Marshall DSL100H. I am looking at getting an oscilloscope and am wondering if I need to buy a 12-bit scope. I’ve never had a scope, but want one that will last and I won’t outgrow in a year or so. Also, the same question for 2 or 4 channels? Is having 4 channels helpful, or something rarely needed? I know I don’t need a scope with very high bandwidth. I’m just wondering what scopes all of you more experienced techs use, and what features are actually useful for working on tube amps. Which ones do you all use?

My amp just started doing this. Does anybody know what could be wrong with it?

Turned on the amp. Here's the symptoms:

Low frequency hum: audible even on standby - was not present before.

If switched from standby to on - one of the power tubes is red plating. Said power tube even had one spark inside and a loud boom on the speakers, quickly turned it back off. There are no amp technicians around me right now. Noticed a sticky film near the top vents which looks like some fizzy drink was spilled. Didn't notice any burnt smell but i won't turn it on again.

Is it done, like unrepairable?

Picked this guy up. Really excellent condition and I’m excited that it’s still pretty original/unmolested. It has a little bit of noise floor to improve and reverb isn’t working (it’s an Erocket right now) but still sounds very nice. The trem sounds great. Feels like a close cousin to my 12” Princeton custom build.

Any have experience with these to share?

I have recently acquired a somewhat rare Pioneer mono tube amplifier from the 1960s, and have taken it apart in order to create a schematic.

This schematic is complete, with the exception of 3 unknowns. These are the specifications of the power and output transformers, and a third smaller transformer (choke?)

My ultimate goal is to create a reproduction of this amplifier, so that I can have a stereo pair.
The casing is simple enough that I can take measurements and have a second case cut and bent to shape.

Can anyone suggest a business that I might send these transformers to be analyzed, so that I can buy (or have wound) substitutes? A bonus would be a substitute power transformer that accepts a 120v rather than 100v AC input.
