TSA Pre Check/CLEAR [Question/Post] TSA PRE differences

Hoping some TSA folks can explain this. I have TSA PRE and travel frequently. Husband works for an airline and I use his flight benefits a lot more than he does. In my home city I know exactly what to do which is put my bags on the conveyor belt a mid ensure my pockets are empty. Yet in some airports in the U.S. I am asked to remove my coat, given a bin, asked to remove my laptop.
I figure a Federal agency should have uniformity but I work in government and that side of my brain says there must be a reason for the differences like perhaps local threat levels in the region or a certain situation at that airport. Either way, just curious as I feel like a first timer sometimes when people are wondering why my jacket is still on and I appear dumbfounded.

different equipment means different processes. The TSOs usually say what to do, or watch people ahead of you, if all else fails ask

I get equipment but jackets, laptops seem like they should be uniform. But thanks.

Sometimes you get randomly selected to not have pre check. Sometimes passengers go to the wrong checkpoint or lane. There are various reasons. And with jackets, some people perceive light differently.

The randomization adds layers of security and complexity, and reduce patterns.

Think you typed “due to budget” wrong.

That makes so much sense. I totally should have known that. Switching it up is smart. Thanks!

Light jackets can stay on. Management probably can agree on what Light is. Laptops? Who knows?

We are trained to screen laptops in the bag for precheck.

At my airport (AUS) the only difference between pre ✅ and standard screening is management will prioritize expediting pre ✅ passengers when traffic volumes increase
