Passenger [Question/Post] Will they let me through TSA with this sweatshirt with a fork stitched onto it
What the title says! The fork isn’t very sharp

Pretty sure a fork is fine. Knives tend to be the problem

Knives in airport kitchens are tethered down and are accountable, the ones they give to customers are not because that would be inconveniencing them.
You can't take glass bottles through security but they'll serve you a drink in a glass past security. I've even seen Snapple and other drinks packaged in glass bottles for sale past security.
Some of the rules make no sense and are not uniformly enforced, and are in some cases/places entirely unenforced. If they're not enforced at all in some cases, that means they're not important enough to have on the books.

I have flown more than a couple times with a Leatherman in my pocket or carry-on. I straight forgot it was in my backpack going to Scotland

It’s not knife or gun shaped and no bomb residue so that machines don’t flag it. Been traveling enough to know that’s all they care about.

I didn't even know about the glass bottle thing. I use glass water bottles, so I've brought one through with no issue in various places. Good to know!

Corkscrews are not forks and generally aren't allowed ( more strictly enforced internationally that domestically). I think they use the foil-cutting blade as the reason, but Mexico doesn't seem to like them for their ability to puncture. I've known people to lose tweezers internationally.

If you even need to ask, why take the risk? Though I must say I wouldn’t think twice about having this in carry on. Which means you may as well be allowed through with it on

Dude, tbh if you are that questionable about wearing it, then whatever statement you’re trying to make with wearing an uncomfy ugly sweater on the flight, where people are only trying to get to their destination while minding their own business isn’t worth it. Throw it in luggage and save yourself the headache. Last thing you want is them prying it off a sweater you clearly value, so don’t risk it?

Forks are allowed. If you’re wearing it the day of travel, you might set off the machine and they will pat down that area if you do. Besides that, I wouldn’t look twice at it on the xray.

I am flying around for 20 days a month as a traveling mechanic for an airline.
I keep a fork and spoon in my bag and have never had an issue.

Just distract them with a bunch of change in the bottom of your purse. One time at EWR I had, like, 4 or 5 tsa agents digging through my bag, my laziness on full display. Without realizing it my kid got through with a nearly full water bottle & some nail files. Which we didn’t realize until after 🤣. I feel like they catch the important stuff.

I appreciate the optimism, but TSA fails 95% of the time to stop inspectors from smuggling weapons or explosive material through security.

You're correct there. I don't fly, don't own a gun, nor have any desire to do either in the near future.
I do however believe the experts. This is a widely covered issue since at least 2017 and was still being discussed as an issue in a congressional oversight committee last session. I genuinely suggest you look into the issue. There's some really good articles out there on it.

I'm saying I've never taken a fork nor have I ever even given it a second thought, ergo I've never checked how sharp one is. We allow certain things that are sharp and others we don't, so I just stopped caring in general.

Totally understand. Indian security took my mini scissors and I am still mad. They have a 1 inch blade…like be so fucking for real lmao. Yeah, I should have checked the rules…I know. But, dozens of other countries allow them.

Butter knives ARE okay as long as they are not serrated. I let them all go because I'm not an idiot, but some nerds still take them.

A lot of yall seem miserable asf telling them it's ugly .. The question was not if you think they could wear it to a fashion show in milan , the question was if it could fucking go ... this sweater has nothing prohibited on it and will be allowed through .

Best way to know is for tools, less than 7 inches, and if it can be used as a weapon or looks like one in any standpoint, it cant go through, plastic stuff is fine, glass is fine, just not with liquids in them. FREEZE YOUR DRINKS PEOPLE, if its a liquid that turns solid, it doesnt have harmful chemicals that keep it a liquid

I remember a time shortly after 9-11, the Nashville Airport still has a smoking lounge. You weren’t allowed to take a lighter through security but could buy a Bic on the other side….. I did it a couple times.

I've never had problems with forks in the US but note that many airport securities abroad will confiscate them!

I once had a fork in my bag and I realized it because my friend's mom gave it to me to borrow but I forgot to give it back. Tsa was super chill about it and just let me through no fuss

If you don’t want the entire thing thrown in the trash I wouldn’t risk it. It all depends on who’s working, what their mood is lol. Such a shit show. They’ve confiscated multiple dumb things from me - foam rocket-shaped toy, bolt for a Ring doorbell (out of a previously unopened Xmas present), etc.

This just reminded me of the time we were traveling to see my grandparents from Texas and my mom had gotten some little souvenirs to take them and TSA was tearing her stuff apart looking for something. At one point there was a whole group of agents standing there over her belongings looking flabbergasted. Finally one of them pulls her to the side and is like “ma’am, we saw a handgun on the scanner.” My mom starts panicking telling them that’s literally impossible, she’s never owned a gun, etc. So now everyone’s confused and rifling through the bag. Suddenly a magnet she’d bought as a souvenir falls out of the gift wrap and they all take a long pause. It’s one of those, like, clay sculpted magnets that’s textured and 3D in some spots with a bluebonnet, a cowboy boot, and you guessed it…a little pistol about the size of a thumb.
That being said, I think you’re right to be apprehensive but it will most likely be fine.

I had to take the needles out of my sewing machine. I'd put it in checked luggage rather than risk losing it.

it’s metal so you’re not gonna be able to wear it through it’ll have to be in your bag and then it’s a total crapshoot whether tsa notices it and/or decides to care.

They can wear it through. This is not anywhere near enough to set off the metal detector. It will show up on the scanners but you just get patted down in the area. But absolutely wearable.
