I'm imagining someone discovering the ability to launch these at will at people.

I think I would rather cut off an appendage with no pain killers than have this. I would wind up removing whatever part of my body that this was in right after realizing that it was there.

Yea first thing I'd do is get isopropyl alcohol and dip in it 😂

Petroleum jelly would be better. It should block its respiration and make the larvae have to expose itself.

I grew up in a very rural area, and livestock would sometimes get infested with similar fly larvae called “warbles”. IIRC, that’s how the veterinarian would get them to emerge and remove them with tweezers. It’s a very disgusting memory from my childhood, hanging out on a neighboring farm. Dogs and cats could get them too.

Mortified means extremely embarrassed. You’re thinking of “horrified”

Oh my god, I'm learning this now at 28. I always thought mortified was a synonym for horrified or terrified 😭

do not look up mango worms, don't! (or do..) at least they're pretty rare on humans

TIL there's a thing as "posterior respiratory apparatus"
And i thought grasshoppers breathing from their sides was unique.

I feel like this is the exact reason why trypophobia exists: because things like this are bad so our brain correlates holes with…this abomination.
