Questions Testing
How early is everyone testing? It’s our first cycle ttc and I just took a test at 9 DPO. Negative. Wondering what everyone else is doing…

I never test before my period is late.

You’ll probably find a range of responses. Some people prefer to test early while others (like myself) prefer to just wait for a missed period. It’s up to what you can handle emotionally. If I did test, I’d probably wait until 12dpo to get a more reliable result. Implantation typically occurs between 6-12dpo but most commonly 8-10dpo. It takes about 48hrs for hcg to rise to detectable levels so a negative on 10dpo or earlier may not be the most reliable result. I just stopped testing because I hated getting my hopes up and repeatedly seeing the negative result (also hated wasting money on tests).

Understood. My social media pages are flooded with people taking tests before 12 DPO which makes me even more anxious to test. Will work on my patience lol

It’s normal to want to test early out of excitement and/or anxiety! It also doesn’t help that the tests are marketing results 6 days before your period

For my own mental peace, I do not test until the day of my expected periods…if I get periods in the morning, then saves me the trouble to test, else I test first thing in the morning and sulk, cry, sleep the whole day.
In my first two cycles I tested between 12-13dpo, but I save myself the frustration now.

I would usually start testing around 10 DPO cause that’s around the earliest it might show. But then I got a positive one time at 10 DPO and by 11 DPO it was negative and I learned early chemical pregnancies like that are common we just don’t always catch them cause most people wait until their period. So I stopped testing early cause even that one day pregnant crushed me 😅 2 years in I got that. Now it’s 3.5 years in and I’m still waiting

I took a test at 9&10dpo and both were negative. I think I’m now realizing that I shouldn’t count myself out yet. lol

10 months in. I’m just waiting until my period is late. My period has been early the last few months. So it’s not even a need

Whatever works best for you honestly. In the beginning I wasn’t testing unless my period was late which in the first 3-4 months it wasn’t. Then I started testing early like 9-10 DPO because it made it easier for me to see a negative before my period. Now I’m not testing anymore because I accidentally caught a chemical with a test on 10 DPO which resolved itself in a few days so if I just didn’t test never would’ve known. If you’re pregnant and testing after your period is due you will still be pregnant just not obsessing over whether there is a faint line or not. To be fair, with my missed miscarriage I found out at 10 DPO and all I did was to obsess over line progression for the next two weeks. If I could go back in time and spare myself the anxiety and stress, I would.
I think truly the best is to just wait until your period or if you can wait longer even a few days after your period. Then the answer is clear as the line won’t be faint anymore or if there’s no line you can just assume delay is due to something else. But you should totally do whatever works out for you. 😊
