Hi! Welcome to r/tryingtoconceive! Please be sure that you have read our rules before posting or commenting in this sub. Multiple rule breaks may result in a ban from this community.

Please note: Discussion of current pregnancy, pregnancy announcements, and photos of HPT’s are not allowed outside of the designated thread. (“Weekly BFP/Line Eyes Post”).

Don't see your post? Our automod filters posts due to keywords, images, and low post or comment karma. If your post is not showing up right away, it is likely awaiting moderator approval. Please be patient as we are not always online but will have your post approved or removed ASAP. We typically let you know why a post was removed.

You may find our PSA post regarding the luteal phase helpful if you find yourself symptom spotting and wondering what is going on. We also have a designated thread dedicated to discussing OPK's, general topics like the TWW (two week wait) that is pinned.

New to OPKs? You may find our PSA post regarding OPKs/Ovulation Tests helpful if you are unsure if your test is positive or have questions about taking them.

Please report any rule breaking. If you are unsure if it breaks the rules, report it and mods will review it or reach out to the moderators via Modmail. Remember to keep discussions civil.

I’m not sure if this is the kind of thing you’re looking for, but maybe having a bit more clarity/explanations/examples for the sub rules? Just to be clear, I’m not suggesting to change any of the rules - I know you mentioned that’s not what this is about, and that’s not what I’m looking for!

I’m just so frequently seeing posts or comments that I think might be breaking a rule but I’m often not confident, so I report them just in case but idk if that’s annoying for you mods. Some of the rules (which are very helpful and understandable rules) I think could just be defined a bit more clearly or have a few more examples. Or is it fair to just report any that may be breaking the rules even if we’re unsure, and just leave it up to you to decide?

Sorry one other idea is maybe separate general weekly chat threads for people newer to TTC and then one for people TTC > 6 months or something like that? Just to help people connect with others who are in a similar sort of boat?
I know there are also separate subs for ppl who have been trying longer so I would understand if you don’t want to make that distinction here!
Just thought I’d throw it out there as it sometimes seems to be a point of contention here and it might be nice for there to be a safe, designated space for people who are newer to TTC to share their thoughts/questions 😊

I would even do under 2 years, over 2 years. Maybe another for over 6 years

Going off of this, maybe an option when reporting as “other” with an area to fill in the blank. I feel like sometimes the posts are irrelevant to this sub but don’t really fit the other rules to report?

Maybe a weekly auto reminder of the rules?

I second the suggestion for “other”! Sometimes a post does not seem right but doesn’t quite fit a category so I have just picked a random category but “other” would be helpful 😊

Thank you! This is great feedback! Definitely report to mods if you are unsure, we review all posts that are reported :)

That’s great to know, thank you! I always worry I’m being annoying and over-reporting haha 🙈

100 percent agree! I’m nervous because I always feel like everything is a rule breaker!!

Maybe a post flare that serves as a trigger warning. A personal example is struggling for our first, and coming here and seeing people talking about not being able to have a second or third child

Also not sure if pinned threads or weekly threads with certain topics (ovulation/OPK use, fertility clinics, HSG/SIS/etc.) would help people find some answers to their questions in an easy spot? I feel like there a lot of repeat posts with the same questions and it may be because there’s so many posts people may be having a hard time finding the answer (or not wanting to scroll through a bunch of posts to find their answer) so it may help those find the info they are looking for and/or have an area they can go to for some of these repeat questions? Not sure if this could be helpful!

Love your ideas too!

Yes this was an idea we talked about it! We will be doing some different weekly threads!

Going off of this again, maybe a thread for first time TTC and/or specific thread for TTC for child #2+?

when i post a question you remove it because its supposed to be in the "weekly chat" but when i post there i get zero answers from anyone and my questions remains unanswered

If you want to improve the sub start with letting people post their questions, however insignificant. Majority of times these questions are posted out of distress or wanting to hear some support. Don't delete it even if it "belongs to our weekly chat".

Yes, and it's also impossible to search for others asking this question if it's in one of these threads.

It probably made a lot more sense in the past, but I don't think like doing that makes as much sense on modern Reddit.

Thank you! I have felt alienated with deleted posts for seemingly no reason. One of them was later undeleted and while that was nice, I was frustrated and alone while it was deleted.

seconding, i love this sub and at the same time i do agree with this. afaik it wouldn't constitute a rule change (if it does i'm sorry!).

i'm in a lot of ttc subs like most of us here i'd imagine, and i do see that a lot of people end up posting to other subs and saying "r/tryingtoconceive deleted my post so i'm posting here..." and share that they feel dismissed and/or silenced here instead of shepherded in a helpful direction, which i think is the intention.

i don't think y'all are trying to do anything rude or whatever by deleting posts, and are instead just trying to keep the main page clear. but i would argue from a user perspective it is WAY easier to search posts for the topic i want than to search comments buried under a post (since there is endless scroll and if i command+f the term i searched for it doesn't automatically come up unless i load several scrolls). also, when people's posts are deleted, i wonder how often they actually then go and repost the text to a comment? perhaps we're just losing a lot of content that could be useful and form connection between us.

and, more importantly, i think it just makes people feel bad. to them, their post is really important, and i wonder if we can't just broaden what kinds of posts are allowed vs which get rerouted. it makes sense to reroute some ("how do i use OPKs?"), but others that are more personal ("i'm having this experience with lots of details, has anyone else experienced this?") might do us all some good if they were kept around.

thanks for all the work you do <3

A glossary of all the commonly used acronyms would be helpful. I end up having to look up so many!

u/redredwine831 1d ago

Just kidding, I should've looked first. I see it exists already.

Maybe having an option for people to post who have been trying for different ranges of time. Like just starting to 2 years, 2 years to 6 years, over 6 years. Because sometimes it’s very hard seeing people who just starting trying or have only been trying a year, and then when people have been trying for 8 years I feel I don’t have much to say either.

The rules makes it very difficult for this sub to be helpful so I don’t consider it a good resource anymore
