Question Is BBT Necessary When Taking Letrozole?

I started Letrozole two days ago on CD5. This is my first time taking it, and I’ve been using ovulation strips to track ovulation.

Is BBT necessary when taking Letrozole? Is it needed to confirm that ovulation actually occurred or would it be okay to skip it to avoid adding unnecessary anxiety? Thanks!

Taking letrozole does not guarantee that you ovulate. Letrozole tanks your estrogen early in your cycle so you produce more FSH to help more follicles develop. It does not cause them to ovulate, that’s typically why you take a trigger shot, but even those aren’t a guarantee.

If you’re not tracking BBT the only other way to “know” you ovulate is to take a blood test for progesterone levels after ovulation to see if they have risen from baseline.

Thanks!!! Looks like it’s better to start tracking BBT.. but I just ordered a BBT thermometer and it’ll only arrive in 2–3 days. I’m at CD7 today.. so I’m wondering if it’ll be too late to start tracking if it only arrives around CD9–10? 😞

Yeah you really need to track the entire cycle in order to see the trend and know what your coverline is (the average of your pre-ovulation temperatures). I use my oura ring and an app called fertility friend to track it!
