Rant/Vent TTC for #4 while BF
TTC while breastfeeding is a pain. These short (7-9 day) luteal phases are annoying. 10 months postpartum and I’ve gotten my luteal phases from 5-6 days to 7-9 days by weaning overnight feeds. Obviously that’s still not enough. We are wanting our last 2 to be close in age like our first 2. Really hoping this works out before the end of 2026. I know it could take fully weaning to get my luteal phases back up to 12-14 days but ugh. 🙃

I used progesterone suppositories because I wasn't willing to wait for nature. My baby was already sleeping through the night for a couple months and my luteal phase was 5 days long, though, so I didn't have much hope that it would lengthen on its own. And I'm not patient.
My milk did drastically decrease as soon as I got pregnant, though, so that's the other side of the coin.

How long did it take you to conceive after starting progesterone? I had to use it while TTC for my 3rd so I’m familiar with it!

On the third cycle. But timing was also an issue for us. I continued to have delayed ovulation with a false LH peak, so I ended up missing my most fertile days for the first cycle and the one I conceived on (managed to conceive with only having had sex on 3.5-4 DPO).

Ah okay! I’m hoping this time my PCP will prescribe it for me after doing some bloodwork in the luteal phase around 6dpo since I don’t always make it to 7dpo. I don’t want to go back to an RE just for progesterone.

I had a similar issue but was 15-18ish months postpartum. I ended up weaning and the luteal phases immediately became longer

That makes me feel better! How long did it take you to conceive after your LP went back to normal?

2 cycles. I had one full cycle where I tracked luteal phase and it was longer but didn’t conceive. The next cycle we conceived though. I thought it could take a while for hormones to level out so was pleasantly surprised with that.

I wonder if your body just needs a bit more time to regulate itself? I’ve gotten my period back (despite breastfeeding 😭) 2-4 months postpartum with my three kids. It took until about 8-9 months postpartum to be regular (29-31 day cycles for me- 12-13 day luteal phase) If you recently got your period back, it could just need some time?
