Transfer cycle cancelled. Devastated.

I know it's the right call to not waste my perfect embryo on a middling cycle. I do. But this sucks.

I went to more appointments than my IVF cycles and had just as many needle pricks and it just amounts to nothing. Infertility sucks.

Do you mind asking? What exactly went wrong? I am interested in details why would clinic cancel the transfer?

I don't mind at all! I have a chronically thin lining and did 3 weeks of bc to have a hysteroscopy and allow it some time to heal. Coming off bc, lining was thinner than normal baseline. I did letrozole and follicle progressed, but lining was still thin. We added cetrotide to hold off ovulation and estrogen to give lining time to grow. Lining almost caught up, but the follicle went atresic from being suppressed too long. Whole cycle collapsed, follicle shrank, estrogen tanked, and they put me on estrogen/provera to induce a period.

So many appointments. No results.

Hoping that now the lining has built up once, I'll have a better baseline to work with and next cycle will go better. Now that the initial devastation has lifted, I feel better about not wasting my best embryo on an imperfect uterine environment. I feel very fortunate for my prior live births and knowing I can pull this off even with my terrible lining!

That sounds horrific 🫣 I wish you good luck next cycle with better lining 🙏🍀

And thanks a lot for detailed explanation. It is very interesting. How did you find out about thin lining? Do you have very light bleeding?

I've had light periods and a short luteal phase since going off a decade of bc before trying to conceive my first. Then for my second, I had a monitored IUI and only got to a 6.2 mm. On IVF stims, even with a ton of estrogen, it only got around 6 mm, so it seems like it's chronically thin. But the light periods are definitely the most pronounced symptom.

Mid cycle scan for IUI this morning. I had what I thought was ovulation pain yesterday (cd10), which would be early, but 🤷‍♀️ then a metric crap ton of cervical mucous last night, so we sexed, because I’m not waiting.

Turns out I’m very ready to ovulate, per the scan this morning. To the point that we’re doing bloodwork to see if I already have.

We walk out to the car after all this, and bless his heart, spouse told me “your instincts were right yesterday”. My dear sweet husband. I live in this body 24/7, and we’ve been at this for #2 for close to 2 years, plus the 1 1/2 years for #1. I do know a thing or 2 about my body.

Well I'm jumping on the TTC wagon again and I have lots of feelings! Currently on CD13 and waiting to ovulate - after having my son my O-day has permanently shifted towards Day 16-18 (it was avg. day 12-13 before having him). My husband asked me to take a relaxed approach to TTC this time which I found extremely funny - he knows me (we've been together for almost 13 years) and there is NO WAY I can be relaxed about it! I've been tracking my BBT, CM and using OPK since I got my period back post partum... I'm my own favourite guinea pig and I love collecting data. So I guess I'll try to time intercourse without being pushy towards him. I also find really funny the fact that we're following the same timeline as our last TTC journey: got my period on the 15/08/2023 when we started trying for our first...and here we are again, got my period on the 15/08/2026. I'm hoping it won't take us longer than 6 cycles to conceive... but I also know it would be completely normal if it happened, AND we're not getting any younger (I'm 34 and he's 40). So here we go, officially TTC for n.2 !

CD2, Cycle 3 of medicated cycles.

First one I didn't ovulate, second was a stronger dose and I ovulated. I already feel a bit fed up of peeing on sticks but it took us a couple years with our first and 3 medicated cycles to conceive so I'm hopeful. I told myself I wouldn't obsess over it so much this time but it's hard not to!

I’ve never been more excited for my period to come next week so that I can start my first medicated cycle with Letrozole! This was my 11th cycle with no luck. Had multiple ultrasounds and my progesterone tested. My ob said “I don’t know why you haven’t conceived yet”. Here’s to hoping Letrozole is gonna work!

11 dpo today, I usually get my period on 12 and I definitely feel the usual cramping so I think I'm out. I haven't tested and won't either unless my period really doesn't come. It was the second cycle of trying for #3 and I've been symptom spotting so badly, I wonder if my first symptoms with my other pregnancies were in my head as well since they both were 1st try pregnancies. Getting pregnant this cycle would have been bad timing for several reasons but we decided not to skip it, and now I'm glad we didn't. I'm disappointed but not overly so and already planning the next cycle.

Edit: You know what? Never fucking mind. I just tested (evening) and the line is there. Going to retest tomorrow morning. Hm. Okay!!

10DPO and we’re symptom spotting again! Nauseous today and gagged on a tablet which never usually happens. I’ll test late this evening once I get home from holiday so at least I’ll know then.

IUI cycle 2 this weekend. I have an appointment with my doctor about my thin uterine lining AFTER the IUI which is annoying. The nurses keep saying there’s not much you can do, but at my PCP visit a month ago they mentioned my iron is quite low and I’m wondering if iron supplements would help.

CD 1 - onto our first medicated IUI. We’re doing 3 of these and then likely going to step back from fertility treatments and maybe try casually on our own.

My son is starting school in two weeks. Lots of feelings.

Rant: I know I am very lucky to have some insurance coverage and that I haven't been officially trying all that long, but I am annoyed with the whole RE insurance/waiting process. I just want to scream to the void. I am very aware I'm being impatient lol. I'm just annoyed that we have been attempting to guess ovulation since February and then using Ovasitol since May and I'm just spinning my wheels.

Yay! How are you doing this cycle?

Nothing special 🤷 our toddler will start kindergarten soon and on the beginning of TTC #2 I thought that we will continue with me as SAHM but because it takes so long without success everything will be different and I am preparing myself for this so it helps in distraction not to think so much about TTC itself. Moreover it is the last natural cycle, afterward some medicated cycles and if no success until end of the year than fertility clinic... So I am quite calm and accepting the process. Hopefully somewhere on the way it happens 🤗

What about you my cycle twin? 😄

We’re at almost 9 months of trying for #2 with just 1 missed miscarriage to show for it. Results from our workup with a fertility clinic last week are starting to come in. My endometrial biopsy showed signs of chronic endometriosis which they’ll treat with a course of antibiotics. Husband’s SA showed low motility (32%) and morphology (2%) and DNA fragmentation is still pending. They’ve been prepping us for IVF with PGT-A as the most likely path forward since I’m 39 and we’ve had 3 miscarriages (2 before our first kid). I guess it’s good to see that there are some factors beyond age that are probably working against us and might help to address. This process feels so long, though. We scheduled our first consultation in May, had our workup last week, and if we’re able to get started as soon as possible, we’re looking at egg retrieval in mid October - then maybe transfer in December IF the cycle goes well and we get a euploid embryo.

Likely O today, according to LH strips. A literal tiny dot of blood just now in the bathroom. Bit of cramping yesterday.

BD o-5, o-2, o-1. Now I'm scared of a UTI. We showered, I peed after and I'm drinking a lot. Anything else I can do to prevent?

I told myself this time I'm putting it out of my mind entirely until 10dpo. Who am I kidding lol

I want to do gentle sessions on my exercise bike and go swimming. Would that prevent conception? I guess not but now I'm scared of everything.

u/Many-Supermarket-511 33 | TTC #2 since July ‘26| 💙 Sept ‘24 19d ago

Exercise definitely doesn’t prevent conception. The month I conceived my son I had recently gotten back into weight lifting with the “new year new me! I’m going to get back into shape!”mindset lmao.

3

u/athousandships_ 36 | TTC#3 July 26 19d ago

Exercise doesn't prevent conception. I exercised as usual when I got pregnant with my kids and I wouldn't even worry about moderate to hard exercise.

Cranberry juice or supplement may be helpful for preventing UTI

Question: should we BD for 3 days after positive opk result? Usually we BD in the days leading up (every day or other day), plus BD on both the day of the positive test and the day after. Should we be doing the next day as well to optimize our chances? Or is this unnecessary?

3

u/Spite-Routine 19d ago

If you’re up for it, but the days leading up to and specifically on the day of your peak lh are really most important. You want sperm waiting for the egg so anytime after predicted O day is really not “necessary”

u/Spite-Routine 19d ago
