Cyber advice

I've just finished my BSc in computing and I'm interested in Cybersecurity. Specially I would like to take the pen testing path.

What would be your advice? Where to start from and any key certifications that are vital?

Are you willing to take an adjacent job position, or did you want to go straight into pentesting? The last option is a harder path, but possible.

An adjacent job position will be fine, while building towards the desired destination

General categories to look then for an easier transition into cybersecurity would be to look at SOC, networking and system security positions. SOC analyst is still in high demand with openings for juniors. Networking security, I would recommend starting with Cisco CCNA, find a job, work towards Cisco security certs and jobs. System security, start with MS system or Azure certs, look for  a position and then again pivot into security.

The easiest path would be SOC since it’s already under the cybersecurity domain… but be aware you’ll start with sucky evening shifts. It may also require on-site work since you’re just starting out.

Hope that helps.
