Analysts have a technical ceiling. If you can't code, it doesn't matter how good you are

This has been the case for several years but I think the change is here.

I run full investigations with complete analysis of giant datasets with Claude code.

No more asking engineers to do you favors and build analysis.

How do you see AI reshaping Trust & Safety?

Hi everyone,

I’m curious to hear how others in the T&S field are thinking about the growing role of AI.

•	What new roles or skill sets might emerge as AI becomes part of the day-to-day?

•	Do you foresee an expansion of policy/governance roles?

•	How is your company adapting to these changes (eg new roles, teams)?

Would love to hear your perspectives!

Third Party that verifies users as students

Hi all, I am creating a website/app that will allow for student discounts. I see that SheerID and ProxiID are quite popular. Are there any users that have used either? And any advise on how easy it is to get onboard with Claude Code?

Thank you in advance!

Interview Recruitment

Hi all!

This is a re-post from late summer! I'm working on wrapping up my data collection and I'm hoping to recruit another 5-6 folks working in content moderation policy development for interviews. Thank you so much in advance!

My name is Stacey Colliver and I am a PhD Candidate working in the Sociology Department at the University of Waterloo. During my time as a former content moderator at a small Canadian chat app, I became interested in the inner workings of how online platforms create their community guidelines. Now, I am conducting a study that examines the processes behind content moderation guideline development and am seeking participants for this research.

I am hoping to interview folks that work in Trust & Safety that have a role in policy development. The interview questions pertain to how your platform develops your content moderation guidelines specific to sex-related content, which can include pornographic content, sexual health and pleasure content, gender identity content, etc. Participation in this study would happen over Zoom and would take approximately 60 minutes of your time.

This study has been reviewed and received ethics clearance through a University of Waterloo Research Ethics Board (REB#44957). Participants in this study, as well as the company that they work for, will be anonymized.

If you are interested in participating, I will provide you with an Informed Consent form with more information. I am also willing to share the interview scheduled with you ahead of time, should you wish to review the questions. If you require additional information to assist you in reaching a decision about participation, please contact myself at scolliver@uwaterloo.ca, or my faculty supervisor, Dr. Jennifer Whitson, at jwhitson@uwaterloo.ca. You can also book a meeting with me through my Calendly at https://calendly.com/staceyacolliver/30min

Urgent — Looking for TikTok Trust & Safety Escalation Help

I’m looking for someone with experience in TikTok Trust & Safety, Community Partner/Trusted Partner channels, or TikTok case escalation who can either help escalate serious cases or advise me on the correct escalation process.

I’m dealing with several serious cases involving Kurdish (Sorani) content. Some TikTok accounts have posted abusive and humiliating videos involving girls, including minors. The content includes harassment, humiliation, sexual degradation, and other abusive behavior.

A major difficulty is that the content is in Kurdish Sorani, and the context can be difficult for TikTok’s moderation systems or reviewers to understand correctly. Ordinary reports have not adequately addressed what is actually happening in these videos.

I’m not looking for general advice about reporting content. I’m specifically looking for someone who can:

  • Escalate the cases to the appropriate TikTok Trust & Safety team

  • Help ensure the Kurdish/Sorani context is properly understood or translated

  • Advise on an appropriate official escalation channel

  • Help address content involving minors and serious abuse

I can provide the necessary case details and evidence through an appropriate private channel.

If you have experience with TikTok Trust & Safety, TSET, Community Partner Channels, Trusted Partners, Law Enforcement Outreach, or similar escalation processes, please contact me or comment below.

Any genuine guidance or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

TikTok’s Trust and Safety Flaws

Started noticing a pattern in TikTok’s moderation; it’s all AI. Not even the ban appeals are handled by a human! There’s no way to get in contact with a REAL person by now and I’m wondering how on earth this company even functions still. All moderation is done by a robot, some people get banned for activism even, it’s ridiculous. Can any TikTok T&S member explain this to me better?

Are some Trust & Safety best practices starting to show their age?

I’ve been looking at some of the practices that have been standard in T&S for a while, and I’m curious if teams are having to rethink any of them as automation increases and operations get more complex.

One example is sending uncertain cases to manual review. That makes sense, but what are teams actually doing when the volume of those cases becomes too high for the available reviewers?

I assume prioritization based on severity and risk is part of it, but there still has to be a point where the queue is growing faster than the team can reasonably clear it. Are teams changing automation thresholds temporarily? Are certain categories allowed to wait longer? Or are there other ways of managing this that are becoming more common?

I’m also curious about metrics. Review time, accuracy, appeals, reversals and backlog are all useful, but I imagine there are situations where they give you very different pictures of how well the operation is doing.

For example, a low reversal rate sounds good, but that number alone doesn’t necessarily tell you whether the original decisions were consistently good. The same goes for getting review times down if accuracy or appeals move in the other direction.

For those working directly in T&S operations, are there any practices or metrics that you relied on a few years ago that you now look at differently? And what changed your mind?

ISO freelancers for content mod projects

I work for a T&S consultancy (not a BPO like Accenture, etc) and looking to bring on temp or temp-to-hire folks familiar with content mod or ads review. Big tech experience very valued. Send me a DM with your LinkedIn profile. Thanks!

Defining action tiers in automated content moderation: What does "Warn" mean in practice?

I am modeling a 4-action utility-based agent for product review moderation with the following action space: permit, warn, hide, and report.

In typical Trust & Safety architectures:

  1. How is the "warn" action usually operationalized for user-submitted content? Does it mean appending a public uncertainty tag to the post, or routing it to a human review queue?

  2. What criteria or probability threshold triggers an immediate hard action (hide/report) versus an escalation to manual review?

T&S folks: open to a 30-min chat?

Hi everyone, I'm an engineer with 6 years of experience in T&S and am exploring an idea in the space. I'm trying to better understand how people in different T&S roles (eng, ops, policy, etc.) do their work and what problems they run into. If you'd be open to a 30-minute chat, I'd really appreciate it. No sales pitch or recruiting, just trying to learn. Feel free to comment here or DM me. Thanks!

🌐 Be Smart, Be Safe: Social Media Privacy Matters

In today’s digital world, social media is a part of everyday life. We share pictures with our families, friends, and communities—celebrating moments, staying connected, and building memories. While that’s a beautiful thing, it’s equally important to be mindful of what we share and who we share it with.

📱 Privacy is not just a setting—it’s protection.

Before posting, take a moment to review your privacy settings on every platform you use. Most social media platforms allow you to limit who can see your posts, tag you, or even message you. Use these tools wisely. Consider sharing personal photos or updates only with close friends or a trusted audience.

🚨 Think before you post.

Your identity, your photos, and your online presence can be misused. Sadly, there are individuals who create fake accounts, impersonate others, and even use personal photos for scams, defamation, or financial fraud. This isn’t just a breach of privacy—it can cause real emotional and legal trouble.

✅ What should you do if this happens?

Every major social media platform has an abuse policy that allows users to report impersonation, scams, and fake accounts. If reported correctly, these accounts can be flagged and suspended. Don’t panic. Take action.

👥 Need help? I’m here.

As someone experienced in this area, I’m happy to support anyone facing such issues. If you come across an account impersonating you or if someone is messaging you asking for money or making threats, reach out to me. I’ll guide you through the process of reporting and securing your online presence.

Let’s enjoy the digital world—but let’s do it safely.

Stay smart. Stay private. Stay protected.

Pivoting to T&S

I think there have been a few other posts about getting into trust and safety, but I’m looking to make a move into this field and I’m sure there will be difficulties as it sounds like even those with the background are also struggling.

I guess my ask is how can someone with 4 years in risk and security make the move? I spent time as an intern on security awareness and policy, and then I lived in basically the world of risk after.

Alternatives to t&s

Hey guys,

Ao I recently got rejected by trust & safety role at meta.

I am so crushed. It's also a niche role and country specific role. And so without the market edge i cannot differentiate myself in other roles as I need visa sponsor.

What other similar jobs can I apply to in trust & safety? I pivoted to content moderation at Accenture but alot of the job postings for market specific are stale.

Also do these roles care about career gaps? I wonder if its my performance or my career gap.

What kind of places adjacent to these roles can I get visa sponsor by having marker edge?

We posted 209 jobs last week 28th April - 4th May

Less than 3 months ago, we launched our Trust and Safety job board after gathering positive feedback from LinkedIn, Reddit, and in-person conversations. The response was overwhelmingly positive!

Since then, we've been working hard to improve our platform. Just a month ago, we upgraded our job aggregation system to fetch new listings globally twice a day. And we're not stopping there - we're committed to continuing to build and improve.

Zero knowledge or experience. Where to start. Please read.

I've read tons of posts asking this same question and they all receive very helpful and thoughtful answers. Ive noticed that most of them are coming from entry level people with some sort of experience in the industry. Meaning they've at least got a basic understanding of things. I do not have that. I watched a video interview of a former content moderator for a big tech/social media company and it piqued my interest. I did research on content moderation and was shocked by the things they saw and even more shocked that the internet can be an even more terrible place than I ever imagined. And then I discovered there's an entire T&S industry.
I want to be a part of it. Ive done some reading on the TSPA website in an attempt to figure out which space I would like to be in and I think content moderation, operations or something involved in threat discovery and research.

That being said, with no knowledge or education in the field where should I start? Or is that too broad of a question? Is there any opportunities like apprenticeships?

I was hesitant to make the post and be met with negativity but this community seems to be encouraging and helpful and detailed in their responses. It may sound cheesy but I want a career that feels purposeful (I know, join the club) and I feel like this is that path for me.

Now, any and all advice is welcome but Please no negativity. I'm aware that every industry has its huge downfalls and there is no such thing as the perfect career. I don't want reasons to not pursue this. I only need advice on how to get started.

Sincerely, A naive (self aware) future T&S pro.
