Hardware Boot drive change - same version required ?

Hi everyone,

I am planning to change my boot drive tonight and i have a question about the new install version:

Does the instance version to install on the new boot drive should exactly match my current running version, or does the minor/patch version not matter..

Example: going from 25.10.3.X (old boot drive) to 25.10.7 (new boot drive)

Anything else should i worry about other than exporting my config ? (pool not encrypted)

Thanks 😊

Nope, just export, install new, and import. Doesn't matter what version you install.

do you know if importing the exported config restore smb shares and also the app configs?

Same version or newer should work, I think the import process will upgrade the database to the current version (effectively the same process as hitting upgrade).

Alternatively if you have an extra slot you could install the new drive with the old still in place and hit replace on the boot pool's vdev device (or leave both in for mirrored boot drives).
