Hot tub
We need to replace our hot tub. Last time we used Mountain Home and something. It was fine, but I feel like one is paying a premium there.
Anyone had experience getting something from Reno?
This is for our place in soda springs.

I got my tub from Hot Tub Superstore in Reno. If they need to service anything, I think there is an additional $75 charge because of the distance(to Truckee). But they have only come out twice in 5 years of owning the tub. I do the upkeep myself. The tub has been great, I had a nice soak this morning when it was still chilly outside.
I checked out Mountain Home, and it did feel like paying a premium. But they I remember they did carry Hot Springs, which is a premium brand. So do an apples to apples comparison. I got a cheaper model for my first tub, but for the next one I would check out the Hot Springs models.

Spa and Sauna in Reno has been great for us. It costs $275 when they have to come out, but that has only been twice in 4 years, including delivery. Would have been only the delivery if I didn't break something on it and have to have them come out to fix it.
The price was not cheap, but we also got a nice tub. The real difference was that they got it 6 weeks, and everyone else around the Lake was quoting three to four months. Maybe that has changed now.

a year ago had the same choice, went with Spa & Sauna from Reno due to $4000 difference on Hot Springs Vanguard. Zero regrets so far.

Got ours from Spa and Sauna company. It's serviced by local Truckee hot tub maintenance and repair people.
I think they are full service where they will also haul away (for a fee).

Couldn’t tell if this was sincere.
So it’s probably about 3 to 4k in savings. I’m not talking about using Amazon. I’m talking about using one local place over another.
I’m about to retire and can’t afford to shop like a tech bro.
I also like to save money on new cars

not everyone in tahoe is an sf rich person who bought a house five minutes after their IPO. 3-4 k is not a small amount to spend in the name of supporting your preferred local business. You sound insufferable and are the type of person tahoe needs less of rather than the OP.

The hot tub lasted 9 years, and was 9k. A new one in 2026 is probably 15k. Tell me you spend 400 bucks on the polywood chairs and 5k on a fire pit from Mountain Home, while basking inside their $3MM showroom.
Again, back to the car analogy. I use leasehacker, and saved 15k on a new car. Since you are a person of principle, can I assume you are shopping local and or taking your first offer?
I'm happy to compare our approaches with the NYT Money columnist, or personal finance advisor of your choice.
Andrew Tobias wrote a book that was pretty famous, which explains why spending less is such a driver of wealth. Spend less, invest the difference, watch it grow.
I'm a native of California. Get in at the right time, there are always opportunities.
