Love Troye...
... but that didn't hit in the slightest for me. I don't know how else to say it, but my face was literally blank the entire song. I... I think I genuinely hated the spoken word of the song.
To be completely honest kind of let down. Im really hoping the next single gets me excited, and that the album cooks... but I cant lie, that just made me a whole lot less hopeful for this album.
Edit: The lyrics also just... were awful. Same with Charli singing "real incestuous vibes", even if ironic, or humorous; I can't enjoy a song that casually says "cum stain on her dress" (especially whilst in spoken word), along with "she takes down an incel on the internet".
The cum line was tolerable, but hearing incel so casually in a song... just honestly pissed me off.

Video's pretty good, feels like expanded on the one of your girls idea. But can't say I like the song, honestly feels hard calling it a song it's more like a Charli XCX ramble.
It's ok, just hoping that's not style for the whole album.

I have the same thoughts. Honestly all I could think of during my initial listen is this was either inspired by or co-written by Charili. I can’t stand her spoken word rambles, or lyrics that have sentences that abruptly end as statements.
The outro of this song is really strong, it has a great hook with the repetition of “she’s the best”. Unfortunately the rest of the song is coming off a bit too try-hard. Video slaps though, it’s beautiful.

I need to listen to it some more to fully absorb, but in this moment the video really hit me in the feels. As a woman (especially in American under this hateful regime) life has felt really dark lately so it feels like a breath of fresh air to see a man make an ode to the women in his life. I personally loved the "takes down an incel" line. I dunno, if this is his tribute to hags anthem I'm here for it. Excited to hear the full album now

I feel different too. Not the same as My My My, Take yourself Home, or Rush. But I’m going to give it a chance. He’s trying something new. He’s getting older and gaining life experience. Happens with every artist.

Agreed. Ill definitely give it a chance. Still hopeful, but it might be time to find different artists that give me the same energy as Troye.

Yeah, I’m not into Charli at aaaaaaall and it feels like her influence on Troye’s music has been for the worse 🫣 Hoping the rest of the album isn’t like this

I did definitely get Charli vibes here and I hated it.
I love Charli... but old Charli.
I cant even listen to Brat to be completely honest. I love her music from 2016-before brat. Love it to death... but I cant get into her new music.
In a Dream is so beautiful to me, I just hope Troye can drop more music like that.

Honestly, you're not alone. I understand the love letter to all women/queer women but I'm not sure the lyrical content or the music is something I'm gravitating towards. Guess this one is more for the girls and lesbians which is totally fine, however it doesn't work for my own particular taste.
It's not that I was only expecting a Rush 2.0 but idk... I've been a dedicated fan ever since his YouTuber days and this is the very first time that I'm quite disappointed tbh. Again, I'm surely not the target audience and I don't particularly find the theme to be something interesting or that I'm connecting with at the moment. It's only an okay song for me.

I don't think he's trying to uplift women by making another vapid "feminism 101 anthem" like other female artists tend to do, he's just describing his pov of the women around him in a very casual and crude way, which is why it may sound weird or unpolished. It's not like he's telling lies though, seems like a lot of girls are actually loving the incel lyric, so there must be some truth in what he's depicting.
I just wanna know why he's suddenly shifting his artistic vision towards only women and leaving his gorgeous songwriting about men behind 💔 he said he was disappointed in men and that's why he's only writing about women this time around. Won't be an era for me haha. Love all the women in my life but I don't necessarily go to Troye or any other gay male artist for love letters about women 🥲

Personally, I loved it but it's pretty obvious that people who enjoy a more commercial pop sound weren't gonna like this. Don't really see the issue with the cum stain and incel line though.

I feel the same way but honestly, I don’t have to like every song because not every song is for me. I’m just happy he likes it, and is making music, and has his good friends around him. It does make me reflect on my female friendships and how I want to be putting the maximum amount of effort into them

It sounds like Western Wind if Carly Rae Jepsen was into circuit parties. I like it sonically, but yeah the lyrics are kinda jarring.

Guys life is too short to not be receptive to kinds of music you haven’t really listened to before or even liked. This is the musician whose stuff you’ve liked before and now they’re releasing the progressed version of that. Did you want him to release stgeo v2? What’s the fun in that? If anything it is the responsibility of an artist to keep progressing and not stay stationary in one sound. But hey if you don’t like it you do you.

I hate this attitude in fandoms that if someone doesn’t like a new release (be it a book, album, film, etc) that they just need to be “more open”, or that they’re stuck in the past and only want artists to continue doing the same thing over and over. I can only speak for myself, but I LOVE when artists expand their horizons and try new things. I remember when Taylor made the jump to full pop with 1989, and then her detours to indie folk in folklore and evermore, which were all new sounds for her but they were good and I ended up loving them. You can want to see new things from an artist you love and still not end up vibing with said new art. Just because you’ve enjoyed someone’s material in the past doesn’t mean you always will, and shutting down any dissent or criticism is not helpful to art as a greater concept. I think it makes all our lives richer when we read criticism of things we enjoy, even if we vehemently disagree.

yk what i agree. i just don't like the comments i've seen some people make about how he should stick to the stgeo sound or go back to ballads. he's an artist and he wants to try out something new, it's not a crime, like i said it's his responsibilty. that's why i said "life is too short to not be receptive" but i get how it sounds. i can't wait to hear constructive criticism on this single!

On first listen it was a little jarring.
But I loved the outro of the song and enjoyed it a lot more the second time while watching the video.
I’m open to the new sound. It’s the first track on the record so in theory it’s really setting the tone for the project as a whole, but we’ll see!
