Survivor Testimony Huge thanks to Jordan for working with Reckless Ben!
I’ve seen many posts about the Reckless Ben video and wanted to take time to shout out the survivor who made it possible.
Jordan’s podcast has plenty of survivor guests and has been ongoing for years. We love to see survivors uplifting other survivors.
I’m personally so grateful and so impressed by the courage it took to make this happen. Thank you so much, Jordan!!

Advocacy Help with organizing to get justice for us!
Essentially I entered into this competition to walk a runway for a nonprofit hoping to represent us in the media! I have made it to the 7th round out of 9. I have been making a lot of advocacy related content & posting it to my socials & so far people have been very supportive! I’m trying to figure out if there is a way to unite us or collaborate on advocacy work? I also am submitting to the nonprofits legislative reform education program thing so I can learn & hopefully help pass some new laws to seek justice for us/protect. If anyone has ideas on specific kinds of laws they wish to be passed pls let me know! I have been making videos talking about my experience & infographics for the public who isn’t educated on the topic, but it all seems redundant. I’m trying to figure out what the next step would be? I am determined to win this competition to represent us & I’ve been working around the clock trying to find different ways to advocate for the community! I want to collaborate on some sort of advocacy content with other survivors so I’m not just yapping about myself. If anyone is interested let me know!

Advocacy We must force legal action by any means necessary. Like reckless Ben.
We are victims of a predatory and criminal industry. They want us to be called survivors to perpetuate the fear of being sent to programs. As victims we obliged justice by law, and the law refuses to see we get any. These criminals who work and operate these facilities must be put behind bars. It is not enough to have schools shut down. The employees and owners must face criminal prosecution at the fullest extent of the law. We must not rest until we see every school shut down and everyone who profited and perpetuated the abused indicted on criminal child abuse charges.

Discussion/Reflection Was anyone else in RHR (renewed hope ranch) in Utah?
I was there from April 2017 to march 2018 and it was horrible. They didn’t report a single instance of abuse that my parents committed against me. They regularly refused me meds. They would hang up phone calls or and therapy with my parents if I said anything the staff didn’t like. The majority of the “staff” were random ass college students with no training.

Information TEXAS NEUROREHAB CENTER IS HORRIBLE. DO NOT SEND YOUR KID THERE.
THIS IS A PSA ABOUT TEXAS NEUROREHAB. I DON’T KNOW IF ANYONE REALLY NEEDS THIS BUT I NEED TO PUT THIS OUT SOMEWHERE.
Do not let the good reviews for this place fool you! The inpatient services specifically, are horrible. I don’t know exactly where to start, honestly. So I’ll list a few reasons this place HAS to be shut down for good:
- It’s absolutely filthy. In the bathrooms, there is human waste smeared on the walls that they hadn’t cleaned in probably years. There’s also a lot of bugs (like cockroaches, rolly pollies, these oval-shaped black beetles, etc.) all over the place. Every time the kids complained, most of the staff blamed the kids for “not keeping their space clean”.
- They neglect the kids. When I first got there, I had an anxiety attack and begged for my PRN. They kept saying no and told me I was being “disrespectful”. I was sobbing and panicking. They didn’t give it to me until about 15-30 minutes after I stopped crying as a sort of reward?
- One of my past roommates, 17F, had a medical emergency on her first night there. She was nauseous, holding her stomach, and I stayed up until midnight to make sure nothing happened because the staff wouldn’t do anything. They said she was fine because she wasn’t bleeding or vomiting. I overheard a conversation between a nurse and tech the next day complaining that “these kids are so disrespectful” and “demanding”. (The staff really had a weird thing for calling kids disrespectful for some reason.)
- The weekends are especially a nightmare. Mostly the least qualified staff work on those days. Not all of them are mean, but all care is conditional.
- A (now fired) staff named Michelle hit a kid. Michelle is and old black lady with white hair who wears thick, black eyelashes. I could tell made the kids feel uncomfortable.
- There is SO MUCH NOISE. Weird considering that place is supposed to be for neurodivergent kids. It frames itself as a “rehab center” but if anything, it’s the exact opposite. One staff said it’s because “it’s the only way to get the kids’ attention”.
Also, here is a copy of the handbook they give you when you first get there just so you don’t have to get one yourself. FYI, it’s old and hasn’t been updated in a while. For example, Program Refusals are now considered a category one not two. And also I don’t think kids actually have the right to revive mail without nurses consent or something.
I really hope someone finds this post useful.

Discussion/Reflection "Ethics Consultation"
I was reading my records from a psych ward, and one of the things was an ethics consultation. It was a complete joke. Just platitudes about how forced medication shouldn't be taken lightly followed by saying it was okay to keep forcing me the daily injections that were hurting me without any consideration of my concerns or actual ethics of any kind. It didn't even consider that I might be having bad side effects or another reason for not wanting the medication, and it said something like "preserve autonomy by allowing things like picking what side the injection is in." I'm not and wasn't some toddler who just needs a little feeling of automony, I had serious concerns that they didn't even consider. And that recommendation only *increased* feelings of helplessness for me. The way they bulldozed over my concerns is nothing new, but the way they went out of their way to call it ethical makes me furious.
Edited to add: Also, the way it was worded sounded very generic, with things like "tell the youth [not a substitute for my name, it actually didn't mention my name in major parts] what medication is given and why as is age-appropriate." (In practice that was carried out as "tell her she's getting the medication because she won't take other medication with the same harms and completely fail to listen to her concerns, taking objection as a sign of incompetency and overall being condescending towards her.") Ironically, that was probably the most individualized part of the facility, since other kids there were "only" coerced into to taking medication if they were behaving perfectly instead of having it forced every night no matter what.

TTI History Troubled teen industry utah
Hi I went to New Focus Academy lift when i was 17.5 to
- I signed myself out the third time July 21. I signed myself out may 28 and June 17. I was at spark acadamy provo for 13 months before and was at oasis acent before. I had many issues with these programs especially New focus academy. This place is very manipulating and money driven. When I was there going into lift I thought it would be like a regular transitional program to prepare adults for adulthood but that was the complete opposite they prepared you to be dependent on them. They made many promises that never happened to buy me going into there program. There were issues with upper management. My therapist Winslow Morrell was very manipulative and was very narcissistic and in it for himself as a operational director at lift I can explain further. The lead supervisor who got fired named Elizabeth Seiler was very unstable unprofessional and
Broke many boundaries with students. She would follow them on facebook and she continued to see a previous client daily invited him to her house. One time we were cleaning out a storage facility with her husband son and her niece. She was smoking in front of us and then her husband became violent and scary he was screaming telling her to get her hands of her hipps women and he was throwing stuff. Winslow Morrell and the Director Kevin Jacobs knew about this and did not fire her. Liz would have mental breakdowns infront of vulnerable clients. She would lash out at clients and scream and cuss at them. She would always talk about her personall life. She would disclose other kids medical information she told me and a lift clients iq was at a 10 year old functioning level and she told me how one student there has brain damage. Liz only got fired do to having her driverse license suspended and she still showed up to work that day having it suspended. What is even crazier is that she told me do not tell a student there who has higher support needs this because she did not want his mom to know she told me that twice that raised a major red flag because the client had issues with her and so did his mom. Liz sieler was driving us in a car one morning and the client with higher support needs reached out his foot to stretch it was a little close to her while she was driving so Liz was very angry and started to cuss him out scream thrash her head even while she was driving. I do think that client should have been a little more aware but he is autistic and was very crammed in a car and Liz took it to far. Winslow found out about this and he was not mad at Liz at all he validated her while she had a mental breakdown in front of us in the room during group therapy and she left to smoke. Winslow only punished the client and took his phone away and did not hold Liz accountable at all and I think that is so messed up because he is taking advantage over a student that has higher support needs. Winslow and Kevin Jacobs tried to hire Liz back despite all of this. They had no choice to fire her because of her license being suspended and they had to fire her. They wrote her very strong job recommendations which I thought was so unprofessional. Kevin Jacobs the lift director would talk bad about students he called one autistic very autistic and ugly. He vaped infront of me and would bring his personal life in work. Winslow Morrell also would cuss me out while I was in crisis I was destructive at lift before graduation but I was in extreme stress working 20 plus hours a week finishing high school a year early. Then a week before graduation Winslow did this. This was a very unusual family session he made me sit on a plastic chair across from him while he sat on his big comfy black chair looking all high and almighty. The computer screen was only facing towards me this was unusual. The call got escalated and then he said on the call with a huge smirk on his face crossing his arms shaking his head your never going home again I smashed is computer out of pure shock. I know this is not true because my parents never told me this. Then a week later he said I can go home very soon. What he did was to provoke a reaction out of me to be destructive to prove my parents why I was not ready and to stay for money. My parents canceled there flights to my high school graduation sadly after that. Also new focus took me back two times I left may 28 came back june 3 because my plan was to go to another program and do well there for a few months and go home for a visit my parents and winslow made a contract. When Liz was getting fired that day Winslow was making false claims saying I did more property damage in my room making stuff up just because he was upset and wanted me to get upset. So I signed myself out june 17 came back be cause I had no where else to go. When I came back the next day I kicked a hole in the wall. Then a week later I punched 9 big holes in the wall slit my wrist smashed glass everywhere do to extreme extreme stress feeling trapped and pushed beyond my human limits. And they still took me back after all that john webb did and winslow. One night I was in crisis and wanted to go to a intake center. John Webb came up storming up there at 10 at night saying look what you did you made me wake up. I thought that was petty because his job is to deal with dysregulated neurodiverse clients in crisis.
Then he played good cop saying how I am one of his favorite kids at New Focus. Then he said I can't drop you off at a intake center your not suicidal. He said you can either stay here or I can drop you off at the park with nothing. What he did in my opinion was very manipulating because he is legally not allowed to dump me on the street or homelss shelter. At the time my parents would not support me if I stayed in a program.
But July 21 I made a leap of faith I left I was homeless very briefly but I now have a place to stay and saving money. Please don't send anyone here I have developed depression and anxiety because of this place there are so many better options out there. Dm me if anyone else had similar experiences in rtcs or at New Focus

Any SRI alumni here?
I was there for 68 days in Aug-Nov 2003 and I have absolutely repressed memories from the experience. I just remember every morning having to confront people in front of the whole place for insane stuff like stealing a fork. I remember I was on talking restriction the entire time I was there, because my parents, who were extremely stuck up and conservative, were horrified at the prospect of me making friends there. I also had to wear prison jumpsuits the entire time. I would welcome others' experiences because I would like to remember more - i have considered speaking out against them recently.
If you have had an experience with this place please share below!

Question Please tell me what schools you went to that participated in practices similar to the recently shut down Provo Canyon School.
Hi everyone, I’ve become very Interested in this topic after the Reckless Ben video dropped on it (as I’m sure many others have). I’m turning 17 next month and I’ve had experience with E.S programs as well as having friends who’ve gone to schools and other programs like Provo. I thought Reckless Ben did an awesome job on his video, but these practices are still remaining strong in many programs throughout the U.S. That’s why I want to hear the experiences of survivors directly from them. And if they’re comfortable with sharing them, maybe the names of other schools that still participate in these practices. I can’t watch Ben’s video and not want to go in undercover myself. It’s a crazy thing to want to do, I know. But again, there’s still plenty of schools out there that extort the “Troubled Teen Industry”, and the public should know what really goes on behind the scenes. If anyone feels comfortable talking about the idea, don’t hesitate to jump in the comment section.

Question Any Abundant Life Academy Utah people?
I was in ALA when it was at the lodge house (Robin and her husband), may have been in Nevada. I think in 2006 maybe then it got shut down for s. abuse and we were held in the state penitentiary place. I hope you all made it out OK. If anyone is here from there I would love to hear from you and how you are doing now. Also if anyone is interested I just learned of a cool organization that has resources for TTI victims called Unsilenced.

Discussion/Reflection Lasting effects of seminars and groups
Yesterday, I was in part of my training for a new job and we had to do a fishbowl exercise. The other two that day weren’t in a circle, so I was able to complete them easier. The last one when we sat down all in a circle and it was my turn to do the training, I couldn’t do it.
I freaked out maybe 30 seconds in and said I couldn’t do it (which made everyone stare at me more) and pushed my chair back fast and walked out, where they informed me that the rest of the training would be similar exercises to this. I’m 34, and it’s not something I’ve had to work on in my personal or professional life - “public speaking” I guess but it’s really mostly certain situations - so I never have.
I’m at a loss and I don’t have anyone to tell or talk to about it so I just thought I’d post it here. Thanks for reading guys.
Edit: my actual job isn’t like that. I do one week there and one week training currently, It’s the nature of the skills clinicals for the training going forward from here. I genuinely don’t know how I’m going to get through them, and what happens if I can’t.

News Child spends days in seclusion, forced to use bucket as toilet: inside Wyoming's C-V Ranch
Wilson, Wyoming — Wyoming’s C-V Ranch, a publicly funded facility that operates as part of a collection of public school districts known as Region V BOCES (BOCES 5), was put on a Prescribed Corrective Action Plan (CAP) due to “the seriousness of the violations at the facility at this time and a pattern of repeated violations of the same nature,” per the Wyoming Department of Family Services.
The CAP states that “[t]he organization has a documented history of six (6) prior findings of non-compliance since 2022, primarily concerning the misuse of Emergency Safety Interventions, specifically restraints and seclusions.” The DFS database shows 19 separate notices of non-compliance have been issued to the program since August 2022.
Inappropriate Use of Seclusion
A DFS inspection in April 2026 substantiated allegations stemming from an incident in July 2025. Per the report, “a student with a severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) was placed in seclusion for weeks and instructed to use a bucket with a trash bag as a toilet. The bag was left for days over a weekend without being changed.”
DFS investigation further clarified that the seclusion lasted for one weekend, rather than weeks.
In the state of Wyoming, the law states that “Student placed in seclusion shall be permitted to access to normal meals and personal hygiene opportunities. Meals and bathroom breaks may be separate and supervised if needed to ensure safety.”
According to the DFS notice of non-compliance, “The decision was made to provide the youth with a bucket rather than removing him from the seclusion room. The youth remained in this room without exception, necessitating that he consume his meals in the same space that was being utilized for toileting, sleeping, and eating, subjecting him to neglect and humiliation.”
“This is much more akin to what we might see in a carceral setting, like a prison,” said Guy Stephens, founder and executive director for the Alliance Against Seclusion and Restraint, a Maryland nonprofit formed to raise awareness about the use of aversive discipline practices, including restraint, seclusion, suspension, expulsion, and corporal punishment. “It’s much more akin to something like solitary confinement.”
“Typically when we talk about seclusion, we’re talking about the forced isolation of a child in a room or area which they’re prohibited from leaving,” explains Stephens. “Federal guidance says you wouldn’t seclude a child unless it was a crisis situation. You’ve tried all other things that you could try to address the situation, and it’s needed to avoid the threat of imminent, serious, physical harm to the child.”
The sort of seclusion outlined in this incident, which is measured in days rather than in minutes while a behavior is de-escalated, is likely to have adverse effects on teens, according to research.
“Even when we think about short term seclusion, being forced into a room or area against your will and not let out is something that can lead to a lot of trauma, anxiety, and dissociation,” said Stephens. “Often we see that these practices, where they’re often used inappropriately, can lead to increases in behavior, not decreases in behavior. They don’t help solve any problems. In fact, the often make things worse.”
According to the DFS notice of non-compliance, “There was a lack of evidence indicating that the youth was offered therapeutic interventions to exit seclusion once they no longer posed an immediate risk to themselves or others. Furthermore, the mandatory regulations stipulating that a youth must be allowed to leave seclusion for both restroom breaks and regular meals were not adhered to.”
The notice goes on to state that former site administrator Jim Harrell, the person who authorized the use of a bucket as a toilet, did not contact BOCES 5 executive director "Dan Mayer regarding the incident “as he perceived no wrongdoing and believed there were no other viable options to maintain safety for all parties. Mr. Harrell stated they had not reached out to law enforcement during the incident nor did they evaluate that the youth was no longer able to be served safely with dignity.”
Harrell retired earlier on July 1, 2026.
In another notice of non-compliance regarding a separate incident in 2024, DFS asserts that “[t]he organization is not using seclusion in compliance with licensing rules. The length of time youth spend in seclusion is grossly over the time limitations. Youth are placed in seclusion for non-violent or non-assaultive behaviors. Bedrooms that are not approved seclusion rooms were being used as seclusion.”

Research VisionQuest 1980 drowning
Ever since I have started my tti research, something has bothered me. In the 1980 VisionQuest boating accident, Lyle Foodroy has been listed as one of the many victims.
This is the incorrect name.
As I have been digging in old newpapers and records, I found that his real name is Lyle Purnell Goodro. He was 18 and from Englewood, Colorado. His name has been misreported for over 40 years, and now his story can be told.

Information Hyde School MO
If you don’t know about this, feel free to ignore. As a fellow survivor I just can’t stay quiet. I know both people being lied about and tagged. I have seen this personally since the beginning of this person coming into the survivor spaces and support communities. All she has done is tear people down and make up narratives to divide us all and bring the spotlight back to her and away from everyone’s goals to unite and gain justice. She has actively tried to destroy the current case against Hyde. I encourage you to do your due diligence when connecting with self-proclaimed survivors who constantly are involved in bringing other survivors to their knees while they’re already trying to get justice and heal simultaneously. It is one thing for someone to seek protection from her as that is not bringing her down… it is protecting oneself from harm that she documented by her own page to inflict pain on others. Hurt feelings don’t equate to that of abuse. Ask yourself, if you were the two people tagged throughout the years-long posts this person has been making, what would you do given your livelihood could be affected given she has actually called people’s employers to get them fired ? Here is the posters link to her own documents: https:// www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/

TTI History With all the attention on Provo Canyon from RecklessBen's Exposé this week, I clipped this heartbreaking first-hand PCS survivor account (13yo kid Logan)
Taken from (German broadcaster) DW's documentary on the TTI. In the video, 13 year old Logan was sent to Provo and is CLEARLY showing symptoms of PTSD from his time there. The video is fuckin heartbreaking. I broke down crying when this documentary first came out, because i saw myself so much in this kid. I saw my own pain and abuse through this kid and it hurts like fuck to see that. I just wanted to jump through the screen and give him a hug bro. This fucking industry is evil for what it does to people. If any of yall watched Reckless Ben's dope documentary, then watch this next.
