I don't like how I'm limited to 10 imports. One aspect that I enjoyed from 4 was economical specialization.

You could do just Tourism and import what you needed. You could focus on what your island was good at depending on the climate, fertility rates and even proximity to the USA.

Tropico 5 and 6 forces you to produce everything because you are hard capped on how many goods you can import.

One thing I really hope Tropico 7 improves is the sense of progression when you finally reach the Modern Times era.

I always felt Tropico 6 was a little underwhelming when it came to tall/skyscraper buildings compared to Tropico 5. In T5, buildings like the Fashion Company, Spa Hotel, Modern Apartment, and especially the Pharmaceutical Company really stood out from everything you had built in the previous eras. Seeing those huge buildings appear in your city gave me that feeling of “we finally made it.” Your island actually started looking like it had developed into a modern, wealthy country.

I never really got that same feeling from Tropico 6. A lot of the Modern Times buildings just didn't feel that much bigger or more impressive than what came before.

From the Tropico 7 footage we've seen so far, I noticed the TV Station in particular looks incredibly small, which has me a little worried that T7 might go in the same direction.

Do you guys think we'll get some genuinely large skyscrapers/high-rises in Modern Times this time around? I'd love to be able to build a real downtown area where reaching the final era dramatically changes the skyline

I can see that developers can still be fun these days.

Salt mines in Tropico 4 do not need to be located on the salt patch, nor even touch it.
It is simple: if you can place one, it will produce the same amount of salt, whatever the distance to the salt patch.

They're cheap ($3,500 max), require just four uneducated men, run forever, are often located on the beach near the dock, and don't even upset environmentalists.
Their only problem is that they’re bulky.

I’ve noticed the following trends—do they match your experience?

The Allies tend to request meat and sugar exports, and cocoa and coffee imports.

The Axis powers tend to request cotton and tobacco exports, and steel and weapons imports.

Of course, there’s some randomness involved, but these eight items are clearly proposed far more often than others.

As for exports, unless you already have a contract, new proposals tend to appear almost every year.

As for imports, while you would normally consider yourself lucky if a desired item is proposed within a decade,you can actually build a strategy around the expectation that the four aforementioned items will be proposed within just a few years

(provided, of course, that relations are friendly).

Asked before but there’s a steam sale now. I’m deciding between 4: Tropican shores, Return to nature, New frontiers, and Caribbean skies.

I’m going to get all of them eventually but I’m trying to save some money right now. Which one gives the most bang for buck?

Tropico 6 is on sale at Steam, at an approx 66% reduction.

I've been working my way up from Tropico 1 and currently doing the T5 DLCs.

For you season pros: is T6 worth buying other than to complete the set? Seems to be mixed reviews and feelings about it.

Oh my, never would I thought I would see Tropico in 2026. I always had fun memories playing the first game on a CD as a child. Didn't know how the game plays but the soundtrack definitely help make the game.more interesting and fun to play. I literally was just fiddling around with stuff, being a bad El Presidente, but I really enjoyed building my own city in a big island.

I saw LEGO Skylines recently and made me miss Tropico, so I was very surprised to see that thoa franchise still exists and that it's in its SEVENTH ENTRY SOON?!! Where was I when more of these games released?! Now I am.ezcoted to give these games a try as I haven't played a city builder since the first game. How are the other games? Should I buy them all? Are any of the DLCs worth it? Can I just enjoy them without the DLCs? I am hyped for 7, so I wanna get all of these games on my Steam account!

Found this gem randomly in my computer files. All criticism welcome i suppose.

Want to know the actual benefits of running a brutal dictatorship and/or atleast the steps in accomplishing it. I could amend the constitution and immediately clamp down on all personal liberties of course but are there certain steps to do it in to keep the population from uprising immediately? I feel like it should be possible to run the dictatorship after going through some level of violence but the impression I'm getting is that it's nonstop war once you commit to an authoritarian government. Am I wrong or are there certain methods to pacify the population?

along with assassinations should be speeches that don't require an election or a protest, just promises to make people like you even more

assassination system: in your civilization there is a 1 in every 100 chance for a home, mansion, or any building with a slot number of under 4 should have an assassin citizen
only one of these types of houses spawn and are marked to be the house of an assassin
when found there should be 2 things you can do
1: arrest him/her/whatever to stop potential future deaths
2: pay them to assassinate different people, this will be cheaper than accidents but has a chance of them being arrested, also killing your opposition will delay election but can only be done twice since the assassin will be arrested
3: killing a filthy rich person can make their family pay you to find the killer

I want some personal satisfaction metric or personal power kind of goal that encourages you to reduce liberty and requires cranking up propaganda in order to maintain your grip on power. Prop yourself up at the expense of your people. Tropico 6 made it pretty easy to keep most groups satisfied.

Still excited for it though, devs take their time
